Fairlawn’s Turkey Hunt

Second-grade students at Fairlawn Elementary School completed an academics-based turkey escape room prior to the Thanksgiving break.  Students completed a series of tasks, from multi-digit addition to word riddles to help the Turkeys escape being Thanksgiving dinner.  Gobble Gobble.

Fairlawn’s Tunnel of Hope

Fairlawn’s 2023-2024 school year started back with the best tunnel of hope ever.  So many community partners showed up to welcome back our Patriots with encouraging words and warm smiles.  Thank you to all those involved and welcome back Fairlawn families!

Fairlawn’s Title 1 Curriculum Night

Fairlawn Elementary hosted its annual Title One Curriculum Night for all stakeholders. Attendees learned about federal programs, school curriculum, and state testing. Thank you to all those who attended!

Fairlawn’s Student Success Night

Fairlawn paired their annual Title One meeting with a student success night for all families. Parents learned what a day in the life of their child is like in school and how they can support their student’s learning both in school and at home. Families had pizza and a great night of learning.

Fairlawn’s Student-Led Conferences a Success

Fairlawn Elementary proudly hosted student-led conferences for students in grades 2–5 last week, creating a meaningful opportunity for families to engage in their child’s learning journey. Parents and guardians were invited into classrooms where students confidently took the lead, showcasing their hard work, academic progress, and personal growth. Throughout the conferences, students shared writing samples, math work, projects, and data that reflected their achievements and goals. Fairlawn’s Student Led Conferences

Fairlawn hosted student-led conferences last week for grades kindergarten to fifth grade. Parents, families and friends alike were invited to come in and be treated to students sharing their data and growth throughout the school year. Students were also able to share examples of math, reading, writing, and science work with their guests. Guests were amazed at how well students were able to explain what they have accomplished and how they set their goals throughout the year. Fairlawn’s States of Matter

Ms. Anderson’s 2nd grade class at Fairlawn Elementary are studying the states of matter.  They used the different components of a root beer float to represent the different states of matter and see the effect that they play on one another.

Fairlawn’s Readers Celebrate

Fairlawn Elementary held an over-the-top ice cream party to celebrate the students who participated in the Sunshine State Reading Challenge.  Students who read more than 5 Sunshine State readers throughout the school year were treated to every imaginable topping to culminate all their hard work.  We had many students who read every Sunshine State book as well.  Way to go readers!

Fairlawn’s Place Value

Students in Mrs. Herndon’s 2nd grade class at Fairlawn Elementary used various pretzels to represent three digit place value.  Students enjoyed the tasty lesson as they learned to add two and three digit numbers together.

Fairlawn’s Odyssey of the Mind

Fairlawn Elementary’s Odyssey of the Mind team placed second at their regional competition. The team is now headed to the state competition in March. We are so proud of all of their hard work and dedication. Congratulations!

Fairlawn’s Kindergarten Counters

Kindergarteners at Fairlawn Elementary have been working hard learning their numbers and counting to ten! Mrs. Reeve’s students counted together to ten while working on the carpet and showing what they know!

Fairlawn’s iready Gains Gameday

Fairlawn Elementary celebrated all students who grew in either math or reading from their fall to winter iready diagnostic! Students had an amazing time playing all sorts of different games and cooling down with a tasty treat!

Fairlawn’s Helton recognized for national honor

Fairlawn Elementary School fifth grade teacher Shirley Helton was recognized at the February 11, 2014, St. Lucie County School Board meeting for being named the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ national 2014 Citizenship Teacher of the Year. Pictured, from left, at the meeting are Superintendent Genelle Yost, Fairlawn Elementary principal Jennifer Hedeen, Helton, local VFW representatives Alyceson Smith, Barbara Laidlaw, and Soo Keller, School Board chairman Debbie Hawley, VFW member Nell Moyers, who nominated Helton for the award, and Deputy Superintendent Dr. Mark Rendell.

Fairlawn’s Gallery Walk

Students in Mrs. Brookes fifth grade science class at Fairlawn Elementary school participate in a gallery walk to gather information about planets as a culminating event to small group research completed in class. Students gained valuable information about each of the planets in an engaging manner.

Fairlawn’s Fun Run

Fairlawn Elementary wrapped up spirit week with their annual fun run. Students in all grade levels participated in the boosterthon event and 5th graders had their own special color run!

Fairlawn’s Fourth Grade Goes to Kennedy Space Center

Fairlawn’s fourth-grade students immersed themselves in all things space as they spent a day at the Kennedy Space Center. Students were able to see their classroom instruction brought to life as they toured space crafts, memorabilia, and took space into their own hands!

Fairlawn’s Fourth-Grade Challenge Trip

Fairlawn’s fourth-grade challenge students took a trip to IRSC’s FPL STEM lab on February 8th.  The students learned about power generation and electricity delivery.  The students even created their very own solar-powered boats and then tested their vehicles in water.

Fairlawn’s First Grade Studies Matter

Fairlawn’s first grade students have been studying the states of matter and today they enjoyed a SWEET Science experiment! The classrooms were transformed into a 50’s dinner and students made root beer floats and identified how the ingredients included a solid, liquid, and gas all in one treat!

Fairlawn’s Fifth Graders Bootcamp

Fifth-grade students at Fairlawn Elementary participated in a science boot camp to prepare for their upcoming state science test. Students took part in hands-on experiments and enjoyed healthy competition against one another. Best of luck on your test, we know you will rock it!
