Veterans Day Ceremony

On Saturday, November 11th, the JROTC Jaguar Battalion participated in the honoring of all veterans. Alongside Air Force JROTC, Navy JROTC and veterans dating back to WWII, the Jaguar Battalion stood in honor of those who fought to keep our country safe.

The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion proudly supported the Port Saint Lucie Veterans Day Ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park. The Jaguar cadets provided an Honor Formation during the ceremony, Color Guard, and a tap ceremony. Lieutenant Colonel (USA Ret.) Nevarez was one of the guest speakers who gave an amazing speech. The Jaguars worked in unison with Treasure Coast High School Air Force JROTC, and other organizations for the posting of the colors. The cadets gave an outstanding presentation overall. The Jaguar Battalion greatly appreciates and salutes all of the veterans, and their sacrifices to our nations.

Veterans Day Celebration at F. K. Sweet

ST. LUCIE COUNTY – Principal Juanita Wright is joined by F. K. Sweet students and staff once again to honor veterans during the 8th Annual Veterans Day Celebration slated for Friday, November 4.  Event organizers Helena Grapsy, Tammy Davis, and Barbara Bennett invite local veterans interested in participating in the ceremony to meet at the school’s campus located at 1400 Avenue Q in Fort Pierce prior to the 9 AM event kick-off.   The JROTC cadets from Fort Pierce Westwood High School will open the ceremony with the presentation of colors followed by remarks from a special guest speaker. Veterans Day Celebration

On Veterans Day, Port St. Lucie High School’s JROTC presented and posted the colors during the Veterans Day Celebration at The Cascades. The cadets ate dinner with the veterans and had a chance to speak and learn about their sacrifices.

On Thursday, November 11th, 170 cadets from the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion participated in the Veterans Day ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park to honor veterans who have served and continue to serve our country. Everyone was gathered at 1100hrs (11:00 AM) in formation as they spoke about the history and importance of Veterans Day. The cadets were honored to pay respect to our veterans.

Veterans appreciated at Palm Pointe

Students in Kaitlyn Malloy’s ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) middle grades class at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition showed their appreciation for veterans recently. After several interactive and hands on lessons describing veterans’ importance, students created individual cards for soldiers who are currently serving the nation, and to their parents who have previously served. Veteran Educator Nardi Routten Appointed to National Assessment Governing Board

FORT PIERCE, FL –  U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos announced St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) Teacher Nardi Routten as one of five leaders from around the country who has been appointed to the National Assessment Governing Board.  Routten, a veteran educator with more than twenty years of experience, will serve a four-year term during which time she will help set policy and assist in the identification of subject area content for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also known as the Nation’s Report Card. Veteran dad visits during special celebration at F. K. Sweet Elementary

After participating in the Tribute to Veterans celebration at Frances K. Sweet Elementary School, Richard Soricelli, Seargent in the U.S. Army, spoke to his daughter’s fourth grade class.  Mr. Soricelli shared pictures, equipment, and items that he brought back from Iraq. The students in Elish Mancuso’s class were engaged and interested as they learned information about Army life. Vet Tech Tour

In October, Fort Pierce Westwood Agriscience hosted 22 Manatee Vet Prep 8th grade students and parents.  The group was treated to a tour and demonstration at the Agriscience facility then on to Veterinary Assisting where several Manatee alumni were seen leading hands-on activities.  The Manatee 8th graders were engaged and appreciated seeing the opportunities Westwood offers its students.

Venue Change for April 30 School Board Public Hearing

FORT PIERCE, FL – The venue for the St. Lucie County School Board Public Hearing scheduled for Tuesday, April 30 at 8:30 a.m. has changed to Fort Pierce Central High School’s auditorium located at 4101 S. 25th Street in Fort Pierce. The original location was slated for Allapattah Flats K-8 School. The new location will provide attendees with an enhanced parking area and facilitate a safe and efficient process for entering the meeting through the auditorium. Vending Machines Aren’t Just for Snacks Anymore!

The Children’s Services Council generously donated book vending machines to both White City Elementary School and Windmill Point Elementary School! In attendance at the ribbon-cutting ceremonies from the Children’s Services Council were Chief Executive Officer Sean Boyle, Chief Operating Officer Ashley Mock, and Community Engagement Coordinator John Cesar. On September 27, 2017, the early dismissal schedule reverts back to a regular school-day schedule, and the October 27, 2017 student holiday now becomes a regular school day as well.   “Making September 27 and October 27 regular school days provides our students and teachers with valuable instructional time,” said Superintendent E. Utility Box Art Blossoms in Fort Pierce

Student art is blossoming in Fort Pierce. As the project continues to grow throughout St. Lucie County, two of the latest utility boxes to boast of artwork by SLPS students can be found near 25th Street and Orange Avenue and Indian River Drive and Citrus Avenue.  The beauty of the artwork spread throughout the county is a joy to behold throughout all of St. Lucie County.    

Using science in Kindergarten at Frances K Sweet

What is Science? Kindergartners in Melanie Francisco’s class can tell you! They loved using science tools to explore the world around them, including making milk rainbows. Jason Robinson and James Ashburn observed what happened when dish soap was placed in a plate of milk and food coloring. So cool!!!

USDA scientists recognized at school board meeting

Scientists from the Horticultural Research Laboratory at the USDA location at the Research Park were recognized at the August 28, 2012, St. Lucie County School Board meeting for their support of STEM (Science, Technology, Enginerring and Mathematics) education programs at Port St. Lucie High School during the 2011-12 school year. Scientists at lab hosted field trips, and served as Science Fair advisors and judges. The lab also provides summer employment and enrichment opportunities for students. U.S. Presidential Scholar Nominations for St. Lucie Public Schools

The mission of the US Presidential Scholars Nomination program, established in 1964, is to recognize and honor superior high school seniors in one of two categories: 1) Academic 2) Career and Technical Education (CTE). Nominees must have consistently maintained excellence in each component. Christian Baca is representing SLPS for the academic component. US Army Jazz Band

St. Lucie Sunset Rotary Club hosted the US Army Jazz Ambassadors concert in Downtown Tradition. Port Saint Lucie High Schools JROTC cadets, Cadet Captain Ashlee Seipel, Cadet Captain Cole Herndon, Cadet Sergeant First Class Jamie Triplett and Cadet Captain Robert Hopkins, were very excited to present the colors and introduce the US Army’s Jazz Band.
