Ft. Pierce Central cadets shine at regional competition

The Fort Pierce Central High School ROTC Raiders team competed recently in regional competition among 16 Florida high schools and 49 teams to qualify for state competition. The Cobra battalion brought four teams a male team under Cadet Master Sergeant James Lowery and a second male mixed team under Cadet Staff Sergeant Daniel Grundstrom. The first male mixed team, under Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Robert Grundstrom, brought home third place in the three mile team run. Fort Pierce Central High School ROTC cadets presented the National Colors at the St. Lucie County Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Day Dinner recently in Port St. Lucie, where U.S. Senator Marco Rubio was the keynote speaker. FSA “Tunnel of Support” at Mariposa Elementary

Mariposa students and staff held a surprise “tunnel of support” for students taking the FSA test to show the students how proud we are of their hard work and to help motivate them to do their best. Younger students from each class made signs and posters encouraging their peers.  Students lined up on each side of the outside hallways with their signs. They cheered and held up their signs while the students walked through the tunnel.  This event meant a great deal to the students. Mariposa Elementary recently held pep rallies for their third, fourth, and fifth graders. Mrs. Whitaker and Ms. Patton led the group with several cheers. Kindergarten, first, and second graders showed their support with posters and cards, and teachers prepared skits and cheers as well.        

FSA Parent Night at White City Elementary

The students and parents of White City Elementary participated in FSA Parent Night.  Grades 3-5 families worked cooperatively to learn about FSA questions, writing rubric, and how iReady and SLC Unit Assessments are used to monitor students’ progress.  It was an informative parent event.  

Fruits and Veggies – More Matters Month

September is Fruit and Veggies – More Matters Month. This is a national campaign to inform people how easy it is to get 5 – 7 servings of fruits and veggies in our daily diet. Fruits and vegetables contribute much needed vitamins, minerals, and fiber to the diet which helps reduce the incidence of chronic disease. For children ages 2-18, the recommended fruit and vegetable intake ranges from 1-2 cups of fruit and 1-3 cups of vegetables. Recommended intakes are based on age, sex and activity level. The kindergarten students of Fairlawn Elementary School recently traded in their pencils and papers for an enriching day at the local 4-H farm, a trip that brought their classroom lessons to life. From Salsa to Mazes: MSE 5th Graders’ Journey Through Corn in ELA

5th-grade students in Mrs. Williams’ class had all sorts of learning fun and engagement during their first ELA unit that focused on corn! Students had the opportunity to taste many corn-related products throughout the unit, with corn salsa being a favorite! As a culminating activity, students brought literacy to life by creating and building their very own corn mazes!

From River’s Edge to FPC- A Twin Journey

Being a twin means you do most everything together. From similar laughs to clothing and friends, twins walk alongside each other for many of life’s most important moments. The Maxon twins Christian and Christopher are no different. While attending River’s Edge Elementary, the twins met and were mentored by Dr. Kevin Perry while he was the acting principal. From Farm to Table at Fairlawn Elementary

Mrs. Janette Champagne, Fairlawn’s Food Service Manager, conducted a pizza-making lesson with all of the second grade students. The lesson was about farm to table (peppers, fresh tomatoes, pineapple) and how to follow steps in a technical procedure. Students enjoyed creating their own pizzas.

Friendsgiving at Westwood

Students in AICE English II and Culinary Arts collaborated for a Friendsgiving luncheon. They wrote what Thanksgiving means to them, created a diverse menu then prepared the meal. Smiles and good food were shared by everyone!

Friends and Trustees of the Rupert J. Smith Law Library Celebrate Law Day 2016

The 2016 Law Day Art Contest was open to all St. Lucie County students. The theme, Miranda: More than Words,  encouraged students to explore the protections afforded to all by the U.S. Constitution, learn how these rights are protected by the courts, and determine why they are essential to our liberty. This commemorated the 50th anniversary of the case, Miranda vs. Arizona. Students discussed the Supreme Court case and the importance of the Miranda Warning. French Pastries A la Mode at FPC

French teachers Madame Elie and Mr. Johnson paired with culinary teacher Chef Strell to allow Fort Pierce Central French students the opportunity to create their own profiteroles (French cream puffs). Students learned to make a pâte a choux (pastry puffs), crême Chantilly ( Chantilly cream), and a hot chocolate sauce. The students worked in teams of three to create the batter and cream, and received pastries to fill, and customize on their own. Freeze Pops: Proficiency Never Tasted So Sweet

Our 3rd-grade scholars in Mrs. Forrester’s class just proved that hard work pays off! They achieved proficiency on their Unit 4 district math test, and we’re celebrating their success with a well-earned treat—Freeze Pops! At Mariposa Elementary School, we believe that learning should be rewarding, and today, proficiency never tasted so sweet! These students tackled challenging math concepts, stayed focused, and showed incredible determination. We are so proud of their progress and can’t wait to see them continue to shine! Let’s keep up the momentum, 3rd grade!
