Village Green Art Club

An Art Club has been created by teachers at Village Green to allow elementary students to tap into their creative sides! Students who have an interest in art now have an opportunity to explore arts and crafts beyond what is offered in the curriculum. VGE students are having a blast expressing themselves in different ways!

Vietnam veterans visit Lakewood Park Elementary

A group of local Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 566 visited Lakewood Park Elementary School recently to speak with students. The veterans also decorated a display case filled with helmets, books, dog tags, hats of the different branches of the military, old photos and model helicopters of the UH-1Huey and the AH-64D Apache Longbow. The group, spearheaded by Joe Lusardi, discussed the importance of freedom and about parts they played in the Vietnam War. Thevets also donated a new American flag to the school. VGESS Takes Flight

Dr. Jacqueline Venzen and Dr. Thomas Gay, fifth-grade science teachers at Village Green Environmental Studies School, engaged their classes in conducting hands-on scientific investigations regarding paper airplane flight.  Students had to identify a problem, develop a hypothesis, plan and carry out systematic observations, outline a plan of action, and test their airplane design as they recorded their results.  Students were actively engaged in demonstrating their understanding of the scientific process as they let their paper airplanes take flight in an outdoor setting.  Students also conducted additional research regarding airplane design and which designs were best suited for long-distance airplane flight.

VGESS Studies Space

In celebration of a successful unit of study on Space, 5th-grade students at Village Green eagerly wanted to do a roundup of activities centering on the unit’s learning.  Students chose activities on creating an image of the sun (the Star of the Solar System), comets, and the phases of the moon, as some of their cherished learning experiences.

VGESS Students Are Safe, Kind and Honest

Village Green’s SRO, Deputy Lopez took time to deliver an important message to our students this week. Thank you, Deputy Lopez, for teaching our kids to always be safe, kind and honest. We appreciate everything you do to help mold our world changers!

VGESS Scientists

Village Green’s 4th-grade scientists were investigating the cause of day and night in Ms. Cole’s class this week.  As they experimented with miniature globes and light, they discovered that the rotation of earth creates day and night. They also used their miniature moons to investigate why the appearance of the moon goes through phases in a pattern every 28 days.

VGESS Rolls Out the Green Carpet

VGESS Faculty and Staff are thrilled to kick off another amazing year! Village Green’s incredible World Changers strutted down the green carpet, greeted by the cheerful cheers of teachers and staff celebrating their return! We are ready to make this year unforgettable, packed with learning, fun, and adventure. Here’s to new beginnings and a fantastic journey ahead!

VGESS Pays Tribute To Veterans

Village Green’s wonderful Music Teacher, Dr. Reynolds, and our fabulous third graders put on a special Veterans Day Concert last week. Students sang and performed for their friends and families a number of patriotic songs. A huge thank you goes to the Port St. Lucie High School Color Guard, a group of JROTC cadets who perform at ceremonies and competitions, for opening the night for us! Job well done, Dr. Reynolds, VGESS third graders, and PSL HS Color Guard!    

VGESS Participates in the SLPS Elementary Science Showcase

Village Green’s 1st and 5th-grade students showcased their science and social studies projects at the St. Lucie Public Schools Elementary Science Showcase that was held on Saturday, April 12, 2025. This educational opportunity allowed students to show off their hard work- scientific investigations, social studies projects, science displays- demonstrating their dedication to learning by engaging in efficient and effective learning experiences. VGESS Literacy Night at Morningside Library

Literacy Night for Village Green Elementary, hosted at the Morningside Branch Public Library, emerged as a remarkable event that fostered significant community partnerships. This initiative provided an excellent opportunity for parents and students to engage with the library’s offerings, including the process of signing up for library cards and discovering the plethora of free resources available for children. The evening commenced with students creating personalized bookmarks while their parents were introduced to an array of resources, such as ebooks and audiobooks accessible through platforms like Tumblebooks, Libby, Cloudlibrary, and Hoopla. Village Green Environmental Studies School students, teachers, and staff stand together against bullying — united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion. Wednesday, October 21, 2015 was dedicated to everyone coming together—in schools, communities, and online — and send one large ORANGE message of support, hope, and unity to show that we are united against bullying and united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.

VGESS Honors The Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Congratulations to Village Green’s Martin Luther King Jr. Parade Committee, led by ESE specialist, Mrs. Sykes, who took first place in this year’s parade celebration! Village Green’s float theme was “The Change Begins With Me.” Village Green’s strong teamwork was on full display as we came together to deliver a truly spectacular performance. VGESS Green Out Spirit Night

VGESS Green Out School Spirit Night with the St. Lucie Mets was a huge success! Thank you to Clover Park and the St. Lucie Mets for hosting our fundraiser. Students came out in their shades of green to enjoy the game and were able to run the bases afterwards. Dean Christopher did a fantastic job throwing out the first pitch of the evening! Thank you to everyone who came out to support VGESS, we appreciate the support!

VGESS Falls Into Success

Village Green Environmental Studies School hosted a Fall into Success: Title 1 and Curriculum Night. This wonderful event provided families with helpful information and resources to ensure their children’s success. A huge thank you goes to VGESS Faculty and Staff, parents, students, and community partners for joining us for Success Night. Your participation and enthusiasm truly made this event special and meaningful!  

VGESS Celebrates Red Ribbon Week

“Respect Yourself, Be Drug Free” was the Red Ribbon Week theme this year. Students at Village Green Environmental Studies School participated in several anti-drug/anti bullying activities, some of which included: creating posters, signing pledges, and a presentation by Joe the Biker.

VGESS Celebrates Read Across America Day

Village Green Environmental Studies School celebrated Read Across America Day on Monday, March 3rd. Read Across America Day is celebrated to encourage the love of reading and to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Seuss.  Students and staff at Village Green celebrated the Fox in Socks reading day by wearing their craziest socks to school. Students brought their favorite books to read on this special day and colored Dr. Seuss bookmarks. Our wonderful cafeteria staff even served green eggs and ham for breakfast, it was a huge hit!
