On Thursday, August 27, 2015 many Village Green teachers, students, and families attended the Barnes and Noble Book Fair. The night was a great success. Guest readers read to the book-hungry crowd.
The PBIS team at Village Green Environmental Studies School hosted their annual Back To School Luau for students who displayed Manatee P.R.I.D.E. this month. Students who participated showed politeness, responsibility, integrity, and effort and we couldn’t be more proud of our little World Changers! Some of our sweet Village Green Manatees were able to participate in this year’s Winter Celebration at the Rotary Club of Port St. Lucie. This annual Christmas party helps alleviate some of the holiday stress for families in our community and we are very grateful to be able to give some of our students the opportunity to participate. On January 30, 2025, Sheriff Richard Del Toro and members of the Sheriff’s Office had the honor of participating in Literacy Week at Village Green Environmental Studies with Mrs. Fraser-Wittingham’s 3rd class. That day, the Sheriff made a special promise to the class—a challenge: if they could finish the book within a month, he would return to throw them a pizza party. The Village Green Safety Patrol members have been doing a fantastic job exhibiting leadership throughout our school. Mrs. Bergerman selected certain fifth-grade students for the Safety Patrol Program back in August and they have helped with many things around campus, including raising the flag, keeping an eye to make sure students remain safe, and assisting with morning drop off and afternoon pickup. Thank you to Mrs. Bergerman for leading this program and to our Safety Patrol members for being exemplary students, we appreciate your hard work and leadership!
Village Green’s Odyssey of the Mind team competed over the past weekend at the regional tournament hosted by Treasure Coast High School. Blake Minouge, Silas Pemberton, Kason Liebe, Calissa Nick, Emily Rivera, Emma Conway, and Liam Currin are the seven fourth graders who competed in the Spontaneous problem. Village Green Elementary School’s students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade created a wonderful display for the St. Lucie County Fair. They have been working hard on their art projects for the past few weeks. Special thanks to Ms. Ankiel, Ms. Pelayo, Dr. Venzen, Ms. Harris and Ms. Price for putting this masterpiece together. Village Green’s PBIS Committee hosted their annual students vs. teachers kickball to kick off Spring Break. Students got to enjoy extra outdoor time and watch a friendly, but competitive, game of kickball. Fifth graders who met PBIS expectations for the 3rd quarter played against faculty and staff while their peers cheered from the sidelines and enjoyed an icy treat to battle the heat. It was a close game, but the teachers stunned the crowd and came out on top!

Kindergartners at Village Green Elementary School learned all about pumpkins through literature, science, math, and even their taste buds! They participated in a pumpkin investigation, read stories about pumpkins, and dissected pumpkins. At the end of the day they were able to enjoy some tasty pumpkin treats!
Dirk Smith, Plant Manager of Village Green Environmental Studies School, has implemented a fun and rewarding recycling program. Each week the classes of VGESS compete to see who will win a coveted Sundae Party for the most material recycled in one week. The incentive program has been a huge success. Students shared their growth during quarter one, set goals for the upcoming term, and planted a sunflower to signify future growth. Ft. Pierce Westwood’s veterinary lab is a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital where students learn through hands-on experiences in veterinary medicine. After graduating, students can work immediately upon graduation as Veterinary Assistants or continue further education at the college level.

A group of local Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 566 came to Lakewood Park Elementary School to speak with 7 third grade classes. The Veterans also decorated a display case filled with metals, flags, helmets, books, dog tags, plaques, awards, hats of the different branches of the military, and old photos. The group, spearheaded by Joe Lusardi, discussed the importance of freedom and about their parts they played in the Vietnam War. It was another fun-filled, Kids at Hope day at Windmill Point Elementary as students welcomed local veterans to celebrate Veterans Day with students and staff. The special day began with a warm and enthusiastic tunnel that honored the veterans. They were truly touched by the decorated main hall and the many students waving flags and posters thanking them for their service. The special guests visited every class and spoke about the meaning of freedom and their experiences in the military. On Tuesday February 7th, Cadet Major Jennifer Arriola (right) was awarded the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 8058, Voice of Democracy Essay/Audio Scholarship. She wrote and recorded a two-page essay describing her responsibility to America. Her essay was titled “The Land of the Free.” In her essay, she described her mission to give back to America and expressed her patriotism for this great country.
