Girls’ Basketball Team Advances to Regional Final

The Girls Basketball team of St. Lucie West Centennial hosted St. Cloud High School in their Regional Semifinal game. The team emerged victorious, advancing to the Regional Final. This achievement marks a significant milestone in what has been a fantastic season for the Girls, under the dedicated guidance of Coach Stewart, Coach Tolbert, and Coach Wetherall. Their hard work and determination have paid off, making them one of only eight Girls Basketball teams left in the state. Girl Scouts collaborating with St. Lucie Schools during summer programs

The Southeast Florida Council of the Girl Scouts of America, with financial support by the St. Lucie County Children’s Services Council, is sponsoring workshops during St. Lucie County Schools’ 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) summer programs at several school sites in St. Lucie County. Gift of Reading for Oak Hammock K-8

Oak Hammock Kindergarten students and teachers were generously gifted books courtesy of MIDFLORIDA Credit Union as part of their annual Gift of Reading program. This year students were treated to a virtual read aloud of “I am a TIGER” by Karl Newson and Ross Collins. Students were truly entertained by the engaging read aloud and excited to receive a copy to enjoy endlessly! We appreciate this gift and opportunity to instill a love of literacy in our students. St. Lucie West Centennial Culinary 2 students put up an awesome Halloween buffet. Culinary 2 students in Chef Gedke-Balachak’s classes worked together to whip up this ghoulish celebration! Way to go, Eagles!      

Getting to Know you at Mariposa Elementary

Mariposa Elementary students in Mrs. Michelle Smith’s 1st grade class took silly pictures with their new table team mates as a way to get to know each other! Students enjoyed the photo booth and laughed through all the pictures as they asked “getting to know you” questions to their new friends! Getting Our Nutrition on at PBPA

UF/IFAS Family Nutrition Program stopped in at PBPA to discuss nutrition with our LAPP students and a few others. The nutrition educator talked about food groups, good vs bad beverages, sugar shockers, and portion control. We look forward to having them back for other demonstrations, conversations, and projects.

Mrs. Dana Tillberg, School Counselor at Mosaic Digital Academy, has been hosting a “Get My Job” series via zoom since the beginning of November.  The series is designed to provide students with opportunities to interact with professionals to provide more in-depth knowledge about career paths and real-life experiences and ultimately to learn what it takes to “get their job.”  The target audience is students in Grades 7-12. Geometry is Life!

Ms. Cirocco’s Geometry Class is creating roller coasters! The students are finally in the building stages of the framework and some are even starting to put the tracks on! . The purpose of the project is to bring science and math from the classroom into the real world. Class discussions have been about how the engineers and builders have to create a design and then build.  

Geocaching Exercise at Southern Oaks

Through a collaborative effort by the Social Studies, ESE, and Robotics Departments, Southern Oaks Middle School students participated in their first geocaching exercise. Student pairs were given the latitude and longitude of a cache location. Combining their GPS technology with their previously learned map skills, they sought out the hidden clues about Hammurabi’s Code, one of the oldest surviving codes of law in recorded history.

Generation Green Apple Award Winner

Allapattah Flats K-8 School was recognized at the school board meeting for receiving a 1st place Green Garden Award from the US Green Building Council South Florida Chapter Treasure Coast Branch at its fourth annual Generation Green Apple Awards on May 16, 2015. The Allapattah Flats garden program was the inspiration and has been the perspiration of teacher Rebecca Benton who has coordinated the development of multiple gardens on the school campus.
