FORT PIERCE, FL – George Couros, leading educator in the area of innovative leadership, teaching, and learning, is slated to bring his message to staff members of St. Lucie Public Schools’ (SLPS) newest magnet schools — Fort Pierce Westwood Academy – The WEST Prep Academy, Samuel S. Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies, and Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie (CAST) on Monday, July 29, 2019. Couros has worked as a teacher and technology facilitator, school and district administrator, and is author of the book The Innovator’s Mindset: Empower Learning, Unleash Talent, and Lead a Culture of Creativity. He is a sought-after speaker on the topic of innovative student learning and engagement and has worked with schools and organizations around the globe. Couros is also the creator of Connected Principals.com, an initiative that brings educators and leaders together from around the world to create powerful learning opportunities for students.
Jane Whitaker, coordinator for the SLPS magnet programs, said, “Couros will help set the stage for our educators to push innovative thinking as they work to create the learning opportunities our students and schools deserve.” Fort Pierce Westwood Academy – The WEST Prep Magnet, the host school for this event, kicks off this year with its unique programs that infuse science, technology, engineering, arts, and math throughout all content areas. Feature programs include: Pharmacy Tech, Veterinarian Assistant, Agri-technology, Robotics, and Engineering. This is the second year that CAST and Samuel S. Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies have offered Arts and STEM programs.
