WeatherSTEM at Southport

Follow St. Lucie County WeatherSTEM at Southport Middle School for up-to-date local weather. The Southport Middle School WeatherSTEM Unit is an integration of weather sensors that collects real-time atmospheric data and is available on the stlucie.weatherstem.com/spm  website or mobile app. The WeatherSTEM unit was donated to Southport through a grant by Meteorologist Edward Mansouri, CEO of Ucompass in Tallahassee. WeatherSTEM provides weather data to anyone with Internet access. The WeatherSTEM unit features updated radar, a cloud camera that takes a snapshot once per minute, as well as wind and tide information. Our MSE Blue Jays glowed with joy and pride at this year’s BBBS Bowl for Kids’ Sake event on Saturday, September 24th at Superplay USA!  Fun was had by all at this neon/glow in the dark themed event. Our team raised $636.62 for the cause!

Lights On Afterschool

On Monday, October 17, 2016, St. Lucie Public Schools will hold its 2nd Annual Lights On Afterschool event. All community members are invited to attend to help us celebrate this national event and learn more about programs, activities, and opportunities available for your child. Afterschool programs keep kids safe, help working families, and inspire learning. According to data from the Afterschool Alliance, 15.1 million children are without adult supervision in the afternoon hours.

Getting to Know you at Mariposa Elementary

Mariposa Elementary students in Mrs. Michelle Smith’s 1st grade class took silly pictures with their new table team mates as a way to get to know each other! Students enjoyed the photo booth and laughed through all the pictures as they asked “getting to know you” questions to their new friends! Table team mates Lucia Costello, Zykeria Reynolds, Malaki McAdams, Kacen Maggard, and Michael Soto are enjoying getting to know one another in this picture.

Bayshore Elementary Welcomes Dads!

Bayshore Elementary School participated in Dads Take Your Child to School Day on Wednesday, September 28.  Dads, stepdads, grandfathers, uncles, and many other male role models  were welcomed into the school’s media center.  All of these important role models made a commitment to remain actively involved in their children’s education.  They also learned about ways to volunteer while enjoying a light breakfast.  Bayshore thanks the more than 300 male role models who attended! Students Lead the Way at MSE

Morningside Elementary’s fifth grade student-led conferences received high marks on evaluation forms.  Write-in comments included feedback such as “very informative” and “it was great.”  During the 30-minute conference, parents and students were shown how to access the St. Lucie Public Schools website; the MSE website; the Skyward site; and lastly, the 5th grade 2017 t-shirt, “Think Outside the Box,” was revealed. Then students shared their work, scores on Reading Counts, goals, and interactive notebooks with their parents and grandparents.  Finally, all the students and parents signed garden pots as our 2017 contribution to the 5th grade garden. Cobra Culinary Team Networks

Fort Pierce Central’s Culinary Arts students attended the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Show held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, in Orlando, FL. All five culinary programs from the District attended the show. Students learned about new trends in food service and had the opportunity to taste foods from around the world. Students also enjoyed networking with industry leaders within the Culinary and Hospitality industries. The culinary students will embrace these experiences for a lifetime. The Crew Gathers for St. Lucie Soars Take-Off Ceremony

ST. LUCIE COUNTY – Business and civic leaders will join St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) officials on Wednesday, October 5th at the Treasure Coast International Airport to celebrate the official take-off of the District’s early literacy initiative – St. Lucie Soars. Morningside Dads Take Your Child To School Day

Donuts for Dads was a great success at Morningside Elementary.  Dads, grandads, uncles, and some moms brought their students to school from 8:15-8:45 am.  They enjoyed doughnuts and coffee with their students in the cafeteria and in classrooms across the campus.   .
