Lakewood Park Elementary Students Learn Through Math Manipulatives

Students in Ms. Quintero’s second-grade class are using manipulatives to learn about shapes. Students are learning about the names of each shape based on the number of sides. The use of manipulatives helps students hone their mathematical thinking skills and helps students connect ideas and integrate their knowledge so that they gain a deep understanding of mathematical concepts.

Lakewood Park Elementary Students Had an Egg-cellent Time!!!

Mrs. Rivera’s second-grade students went on an egg hunt in math class! First, the students participated in an egg hunt to find “money”. The students were then able to use this money to “shop” in Mrs. Rivera’s store. Students solved one and two-step addition and subtraction word problems involving money to decide what they could buy. Mrs. Rivera’s second-graders had fun using all the skills they learned in their math unit.  

Lakewood Park Elementary students get cool math lesson

Students in Elizabeth Butterworth’s second grade class at Lakewood Park Elementary recently had a COOL blast constructing snowmen. The STEM math project introduced a money unit by students purchasing each piece of their snowman and keeping the cost below $25.00.  Students were required to do a purchase order and write a sales pitch. The students experienced a “snowman cool time” while writing and doing math. Pictured are Ms. Butterworth and her students with their snowmen displayed on the bulletin board.

Lakewood Park Elementary Students Decorate Holiday Cookies for Their PBIS Event

Students at Lakewood Park Elementary had an opportunity to use their Falcon Bucks today for a Holiday Cookie Decorating and Movie Party. Mrs. Keim, former LWP teacher, and our volunteer, baked all of the cookies for students to decorate. Students decorated their cookies with icing and sprinkles. While they were decorating they watched a holiday movie and at the end played holiday games. We are so proud of our Falcons for being Responsible, Respectful, and Safe.

Lakewood Park Elementary STOP and STEAM day

STOP and STEAM at Lakewood Park Elementary engaged all Kindergarten–5th grade students. Students worked cooperatively in minds-on, hands-on activities to communicate complex problems and propose solutions. Kindergarten and first-grade students explored animals of the Florida Everglades and created habitats for Everglades animals. Second-graders investigated sink-and-float concepts. Third-graders researched Everglades habitat problems and built bridges. Fourth-graders collaborated on the Save Fred problem-solving challenge. Fifth-graders examined human impact on the Everglades ecosystem by designing informative posters that shared research findings, solutions, and messages of environmental responsibility. All activities emphasized creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, communication, perseverance, and reflection. 

Lakewood Park Elementary Start Safety Patrol with Deputy Kasey

Deputy Kasey and Mrs. Livingston held the 2021-2022 Safety Patrol induction ceremony on Friday. Students took an oath and will report for duty on Monday morning! Students had to write an essay and get a recommendation from two teachers before being selected. They will serve as respectful, responsible role models who will help ensure everyone is safe at school.   

Lakewood Park Elementary Special Olympics Event

Students participating in Special Olympics events at Lakewood Park demonstrated perseverance, teamwork, and joy as they competed in activities such as the 100-meter dash, softball throw, tennis ball throw, and cornhole. Each athlete gave their best effort, embodying the Special Olympics motto, “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.” Cheers of encouragement could be heard from teachers, fellow students, and the School Resource Officer, all of whom proudly supported the athletes throughout the day. Lakewood Park Elementary shows appreciation to food program sponsors

Lakewood Park Elementary Showcases Their Resource Classes

Lakewood Park Elementary students are lucky to be able to participate in different resource classes. Students at Lakewood Park Elementary participate every week in drama class. In Ms. Gardner’s drama class, students do a variety of activities appropriate to their age level, including gameplay, acting out scenes, and improvising skits. Lakewood Park Elementary Science Bootcamp

  Fifth-grade students at Lakewood Park Elementary recently took learning to the next level during an action-packed Science Bootcamp designed to sharpen their skills ahead of the state Science assessment. Led by the energetic and engaging Professor Hypothesis and her team, the event transformed the cafeteria into a lively laboratory filled with curiosity and discovery. Lakewood Park Elementary School’s garden supplies extras for lunch

Lakewood Park Elementary Cafeteria Manager Andrea Pierson and students from Loretta Humphrey’s second grade class help harvest cilantro from the student-grown garden. The cilantro will be used in a salad for the school’s lunches. Students have worked the garden all year around, yielding all types of vegetables such as tomatoes, tomatillo, and herbs. Lakewood Park Elementary School literacy event a huge success

Lakewood Park Elementary School Butterfly Release

Lakewood Park Pre-K and Kindergarten students were invited to take part in creating memorable human and nature connections through the live release of butterflies. The revealing and releasing of the butterflies occurred in our new school garden to help positively support their lifespan so they can survive and thrive longer during their initial transition from captivity into the wild. Before transforming into butterflies, the caterpillars were kept in a meshed enclosure in one of our grade Kindergarten classrooms. Lakewood Park Elementary Receives Grant From Southeast Petro Distributors, Exxon Mobil

Lakewood Park Elementary was nominated and awarded a $500.00 grant from the local Exxon/Mobil location. The award was presented to the faculty by JP Snead Brand, Manager for Southeast Petro Distributors, Inc., which is a part of Exxon Mobil. Lakewood Park Elementary Principal Dianne Young Carves Thanksgiving Turkey

Lakewood Park Elementary Principal Dianne Young had the honor to carve the first turkey for the students’ lunch while E’mon Thomas-Yasmin got to taste the first piece. Besides turkey the students enjoyed dressing, mash potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, salad and much more. Lakewood Park Elementary Partners With American Smoke BBQ Company To Support the Community After Hurricane Milton

Staff at Lakewood Park Elementary partnered with American Smoke BBQ Company to support the community after Hurricane Milton destroyed homes and left many without power for days.  The team of volunteers provided free hot meals from the food truck and collected and passed out essential supplies on Saturday and Monday.  Families were invited to enjoy free food while spending some quality time with neighbors.  Thank you to American Smoke BBQ and to all who donated items and volunteered their time for these events!

Lakewood Park Elementary MySchool Students Participate in Writing Boot Camp

Lakewood Park Elementary virtual students are fully engaged during Writing Boot Camp. Fourth-grade students practiced writing an example of an introductory  paragraph. The students introduced a topic clearly and grouped related information in the introduction paragraph. Students are using the Top Score Writing program. Mrs. Garcia shared a picture of the students using the program on Facebook and the school won an Amazon gift card for being a Top Score Writing Star User.
