Lakewood Park students get tasty STEM science lesson

Students in Edward Albert’s fifth grade class at Lakewood Park Elementary recently performed a tasty science lesson. They were doing a lab where they made a model (out of chocolate) learning how the three different types of rocks are formed. Pictured are Adonay Ayala-Garcia, left, and Nick Rowse.

Lakewood Park Stop and Stem Day

Falcon engineers had a blast participating in a schoolwide Stop and Stem day during our October Early Release day. Students worked through the Engineering Design Process; planning, designing, building prototypes, testing, analyzing, collecting data, and redesigning to make improvements. All students put to work their Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math skills to problem-solve and work collaboratively to complete their mission.

Lakewood Park STEAM Classroom Makeover Reveal

Students and staff at Lakewood Park celebrated the grand reveal of their STEAM Classroom makeover this month. Lakewood Park Elementary was awarded a $50,000 grant from FPL this school year to be used towards STEAM Education and field trips for all students.  During the ribbon cutting ceremony, FPL conducted a generator building competition with some 5th grade students and took a tour of the upgraded STEAM Resource classroom.  A huge shoutout to FPL for making this day and this entire school year so special for our Falcons!  

Lakewood Park Receives Volunteer Support

Volunteers and staff were busy on the campus of Lakewood Park Elementary School Saturday. Painting, repairing picnic tables, doing yard work, and sprucing up the reading garden was the welcomed work from the partnership with Christ Fellowship Church located in PSL.

Lakewood Park Re-Opens Winn Dixie

Lakewood Park Elementary staff and students were on hand for the Grand Re-opening of the newly remodeled Lakewood Park Winn Dixie.  The LWP chorus performed at the ceremony and the school received a generous donation.

Lakewood Park McTeacher Night

Lakewood Park Elementary held its first McTeachers Night of the school year.  Families and staff came out to support the school and even had the opportunity to get faces painted and win raffle prizes.  Fun was had by all who participated, and we look forward to the next one!

Lakewood Park Hosts Student Led Conferences

Students in grades K through 5 hosted conferences on October 20th and 21st.  The students were thrilled to share their hard work with their family members and their families were equally elated to see what their children have been learning.

Lakewood Park Family Character Night

Lakewood Park Elementary Family Character Literacy Night Event was a big success. During the evening event students dressed as their favorite storybook character. There were special activities through the different grade groups, such as short skits about favorite books, book reads, make and take for our ELL students and their parents, book fair, read to Eddie, the therapy DOG, and much more!! Lakewood Park families enjoy special night at local restaurant

Lakewood Park Elementary students had the opportunity recently to visit a local restaurant during a teacher’s night. Teachers and staff worked the front desk, drive through window and made french fries, while free food item certificates were awarded to the students who could recite the Kid’s at Hope Pledge to Principal Dianne Young and Assistant Principal Tammy Smith. A percentage of the proceeds of the event will be returned to the school and will be used for incentives for students.  Staff member Simone Catrambone donated her time to paint faces for the students. Thanks go to the parents, students, staff, and restaurant … Read More

Lakewood Park Falcons Readers Theater

At Lakewood Park Elementary, third-grade students in Ms. Johnson’s enrichment group have been working hard on their Reader’s Theater while also having a blast! Students took responsibility for everything from choosing their play groups, deciding on a play to perform, creating props, “stage” setup, and even costumes! During this fun experience, students learned about character development and used their imaginations to bring their characters to life. Lakewood Park ESE teachers focus on individual student goals

ESE teachers at Lakewood Park Elementary, along with ESE School-based specialist Rachel Smith, have begun a book study on Quality I.E.P.s to enhance their planning and goal setting for students. As a part of this study, teachers are able to apply their learning and discuss strategies designed to meet the rigorous requirements of instruction as they seek to serve and support their students daily. Lakewood Park Elementary VPK Students Visit the Brevard Zoo

Lakewood Park Elementary VPK students visited the Brevard Zoo after completing our unit of study on animals. Students were able to deepen their knowledge of animals and their survival needs. They got to see what the animals’ habitats look like and how they differ for different animals. They had a wonderful time at the zoo field trip.

Lakewood Park Elementary Vocabulary Parade for Literacy Week

Lakewood Park Elementary held its Fourth Annual Vocabulary parade on Thursday, January 27th. Students and teachers dressed as a variety of words from math and reading terms to science and social studies vocabulary words. All participants shared their words and definitions in multiple ways. This event is meant to reinforce what the students have learned in the classroom—another great day at our school. Lakewood Park Elementary Students Were Trained To Be An Assistant Principal

Lakewood Park Elementary students can earn Falcon Bucks every day for being Respectful, Responsible, and Safe. They have a chance to shop at the PBIS cart every week to spend those “bucks”. Some of these students chose to use their Falcon Bucks to purchase a ticket to be the Assistant Principal for 30 minutes. They were trained to be an Assistant Principal by walking with our Principal, Mrs. Walukiewicz, and helping her with some of her responsibilities. Lakewood Park Elementary Students Visit the Oxbow Center

Third graders at Lakewood Park Elementary got to start their year off with a fun and engaging field trip to the Oxbow Center! There, students learned about invasive and native species of animals, got up close to some unique critters, discovered what keystone animals are and learned about pollinators through exploration.

Lakewood Park Elementary Students Roar Through FCAT

Lakewood Park Elementary Teachers, Principal Dianne Young and Assistant Principal Tammy Smith dance to the music “Roar” for grades 3rd through 5th at three different Prep Rallies.  Students also played the game “Are you smarter than a third, fourth, or fifth grader.”  Some teachers also participated in FCAT Crunch for third, fourth and fifth grades.  Students you make us proud!! Lakewood Park Elementary Students Learning About Nature of Science

Fifth-grade students at Lakewood Park Elementary planned and carried out a scientific investigation by using observations, making predictions, and collecting and organizing data. Mr. Carr’s class created and attempted to float their own boats that were designed by going through the steps of the scientific process. This process helps students raise questions and investigate the natural world.
