Lakewood Park Elementary School first grade teachers, pictured from left, Hayley Peeler, MaryJane Kimball, Breannan Hooks, Jennifer Lusardi and Alyssa Tretter dress as their favorite story book character for the school’s recent “Our Characters on the Red Carpet” literacy event. During the evening event, activities were available for parents and their children to assist with reading and writing skills, and a special Make and Take session for ELL students and their parents was a big hit. Stories were read by teachers and staff in full dress as their favorite book characters. Principal Dianne Young and Assistant Principal Tammy Smith ran a Bingo for Books game, where students could win and choose a grade appropriate-book. There was also a Scholastic Book Fair for students in the media center. It was an educational, fun filled night that students and parents enjoyed very much.  Thanks to the parents and students, who came dressed as their favorite book character, school staff and teachers for coming and making the night a successful one, and aspecial thanks to Mattie Deubel for spearheading the event.
