Festival Celebrates Science on the Treasure Coast

The Indian River Lagoon Science Festival returns for the fourth annual event. Each year since 2014, the Indian River Lagoon Science Festival has given Festival-goers the opportunity to explore the wonders of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through hands-on, minds-on activities. The Festival will return to the Treasure Coast on Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Mariposa Elementary Enjoys Barnes and Noble Reading Night

Mariposa’s reading night at Barnes and Noble was a huge success. Mrs. Brie Lamb read Tacky the Penguin to the students and Mr. R. Craig Logue also read a story. Anthony and Angel Castro are seen decorating and enjoying their cookies while Joandre Sanchez and Leonel Ineus shopped with their parents. We will have our next Barnes and Noble night Wednesday, December 6. Please plan to come for the fun.

Congratulations to Samuel S. Gaines Academy’s John Davino! SLWK-8 First Graders Learning about Technology

Over the summer, Mrs. Nemeth, 1st grade teacher, received five tablets for her classroom through a Donors Choose proposal. Seesaw is a student-driven digital portfolio that empowers students to independently document what they are learning at school. Students can use photos, videos, drawings, text notes, links, and the recorder to show what they know. After publishing a piece about Fall, students were able to take a picture of their work and record themselves reading it. Families also have the ability to see their child’s work through the Seesaw app and respond with comments and likes.

Bus Driver Appreciation

Palm Pointe hosted their annual Bus Driver Appreciation Breakfast on Thursday, September 28th. PPE appreciates all their bus drivers do each day bringing our Rockets to and from school safely! Each driver received a gift, enjoyed special drawings, a delicious breakfast, and hopefully left knowing how much we appreciate all they do!

Parade of Dads at Palm Pointe

Palm Pointe honors male role models in Dads Take Your Child to School Day! What a great event to honor our fathers and ask for their commitment to stay involved. Over 300 male role models brought their child to school on Wednesday, September 27th. DMMS Participates in IRSC Four County Honors Choir Concert

  Twenty students representing Dan McCarty Middle School recently joined their voices with other middle school singers from around the Treasure Coast area to participate in the Four County Middle School Honors Choir at Indian River State College. The students were selected based on their musicianship skills and the recommendation of their chorus director, Dr. Rolanda A. Jones.

Principal’s Panther Praise PBIS Event

Fort Pierce Westwood began a new, school-wide PBIS event with their students this year.  The Principal’s Panther Praise 200 Club (100 Club for MOA campus) requires randomly chosen teachers and staff to identify students who meet our ROARS expectations in and out of class each day.  Ten tickets are given out each day to be distributed to students for R-respect, O-on task, A-accountable, R-responsibility, S-safety. Gaines Academy Welcomes Dads

On September 27th, SGA had a wonderful time celebrating fathers and caring adults who change the lives of our students everyday.  The morning started with an instrumental interlude by SGA music teacher Mr. Pena and students along with photo booth opportunities.  After a brief presentation and breakfast, the fathers and caring adults were eager to pledge to be more involved in their children’s education.

Palm Pointe Students Learn the Importance of Being Mission Minded

Palm Pointe faculty, staff and middle school students are all “fired up” because they had the opportunity to hear a powerful message about the importance of transitioning a growth mindset into the will to achieve from guest speaker Principal Baruti Kafele. Kafele, a nationally-renowned public speaker, author, and award winning former educator and principal, is a specialist in “attitude transformation.” His book, Closing the Attitude Gap, speaks to the importance of being mission minded, and developing the necessary passion, purpose, and drive to persevere through challenges in order to succeed in the classroom and in life. #mission ready    

Ms. Mellion’s Class Simplified Fractions and Created Expressions

Ms. Mellion’s 2nd Period reviewed simplifying fractions after teaching students how to relate division to fractions. Students were able to work in groups with whiteboards for better understanding. They were excited to be able to tell the difference between simplified fractions and not simplified to smallest form fractions. Students are also learning about creating expressions with and without solving.

St. Lucie Public Schools is proud to have served the community by providing eight general hurricane shelter sites and four Red Cross shelter sites. What a wonderful morning at Northport recently. So many dads, grandpas, big brothers and families participated in the SLPS districtwide event. Northport realizes that we need family participation to help us bring the very best learning environment to the children. Many thanks to all who participated. It was just wonderful to see and greet all the dads for a terrific breakfast in the media center. 2017 Florida Art Education Association Award Winner!!!

Caroline Duran, Art Teacher at Lincoln Park Academy has been recognized by the Florida Art Education Association (FAEA) as the 2017 New Professional Award winner. The FAEA program recognizes individuals who have achieved the highest level of professionalism in art education and shows appreciation for their contribution to the association and its mission. Ms. Duran, along with 17 other award recipients from throughout the state, will be honored at the FAEA Awards Breakfast on Saturday, October 21st from 7:30-8:30am in St. Petersburg, FL. Congratulations to Caroline Duran for her dedication to her students and her craft!
