Don’t miss the 3rd Annual Lights On Afterschool Event.  This year’s north county event will take place at the PAL Center on October 12. Make plans to celebrate the national movement which spotlights afterschool programs.  Plan to bring the whole family — it’s FREE!

Lights On After School

Commissioner Kim Johnson welcomed 21st Century Program Managers Terrence Platt and Kimberly Roberts to his talk show — Coffee With The Chair. They discussed Lights on After School, an upcoming afterschool expo designed to spotlight activities available to children in St. Lucie County. Commissioner Johnson celebrated the effort to bring attention to the rich variety of programs available to children before school, after school, and during summer months. To learn more about opportunities local youth have to explore interests and discover talents, mark your calendar for October 17th (4:00 to 7:30) and stay tuned for more details.

Lights, Camera, Read! Literacy Night at Manatee Academy K-8

Last month, Manatee Academy K-8 hosted a vibrant and engaging Literacy Night, designed to promote a love of reading while providing valuable resources to students and their families. The event was filled with exciting activities that encouraged reading, learning, and family participation, all while fostering a sense of community. Lights, Camera, Cook-Off!

Fourth and Fifth Grade students at Palm Pointe competed in a cooking challenge on Tuesday, May 14th and Thursday, May 16th.  Fifty students participated in the event and showed off their cooking skills on Tuesday, and 40 competed on Thursday.  In order to participate, students had to read the book entitled Lights, Camera, Cook.  It was a Sunshine State Reader book for 2018-19.  In addition to reading the book, they had to pass a quiz or complete a graphic organizer showing they gained comprehension of the book.  Students were placed on teams of 5-6 and had a parent volunteer who … Read More

Lightin’ It Up For Andrew 2019

The Andrew Schmeer Foundation honors the memory of Andrew Schmeer who, on September 8, 2014, was tragically killed in a car accident.  Funds raised will help to recognize well-rounded students, along the Treasure Coast, each year by providing college scholarships for those in need and with donations to animal rescues as well as children’s charities. Proceeds from this event will benefit the student scholarship program and local families in need.

Lighthouse Foundation Makes Donation to Westwood

State Representative Larry Lee along with Tom Jones from the SLC Education Foundation, Dr. David Washington, and Olivia Watkins stopped by Westwood High School to present the school with a check from the Lighthouse Foundation and other private donors. The Lighthouse Foundation, founded in SLC by Representative Lee, assists the children and senior citizens of our community. The very generous donation will support scholarships to cover the laptop fee for go to help pay the fee for laptop computers for 100 Westwood students. Light It Up Blue and Walk for Autism Speaks

On Friday, April 1st, the efforts for creating awareness about Autism came in the form of “Lighting It Up Blue.” Staff members from across the District donned blue apparel in support of this campaign. On Saturday, April 2nd,  approximately 2,000 St. Lucie Public Schools, community organizations, and families poured into Tradition Square to begin the Walk.   Each year this event continues to grow and help bring about a greater awareness of autism. Licensed Teen Drivers Can Take “Teen Driver Challenge” To Improve Their Skills

St. Lucie County licensed teen drivers can improve their defensive driving skills  by taking the “Teen Driver Challenge” on January 24 and 26, according to Sheriff Ken  J. Mascara. “The number one killer of American teenagers is car crashes,” said Sheriff Mascara. “That is why the Sheriffs of Florida developed the Teen Driver Challenge Program.” The course will take place Thursday, January 24 with a classroom session 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, located at 4700 West Midway Rd. Liberian delegation visits Gaines Academy

Delegates from the African nation of Liberia visited Samuel S. Gaines Academy recently. The school visit was part of an extended tour of St. Lucie County by the developing nation’s leaders in an effort to find successful governmental infrastructure to emulate in their country. Eighth grade AVID students provided an informative tour of the campus. The visitors were interested in the school’s facility, programs and resources available. Letters Q and U unite to make words

Melissa Bonet’s kindergarten students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition celebrated Valentine’s Day in style!  The letters Q and U got married and agreed to stay together and make words.  The entire class participated in the ceremony.  The officiate for the ceremony was second grade teacher Lorrie Rudzinski.  The celebration wasn’t complete without an official wedding cake donated by Elizabeth Neal.  Pictured are the bride Kaylie Fields, the groom Zion Sanguinetti, the rest of the class in the wedding party and teacher Melissa Bonet.

Let’s Wash Our Hands!

Singing Happy Birthday two times or counting to 100, either way, the students at Dale Cassens: PRIDE Academy know how to properly wash their hands for more than 20 seconds.  Mrs. Jorda, RN from Florida Community Health along with Mrs. Holmes – Health Para, taught the students in grades K-5 lessons on preventing the spread of Covid-19.  Students learned how to properly wear masks, how to stay 6ft or more apart from others when in the hallways, at the bus stop and other school settings.  The students ended the lesson by demonstrating the proper way to wash and/or sanitize their … Read More

“Let’s Share & Care” VGESS Thanksgiving Food Drive

Village Green Environmental Studies School hosted a successful food drive to help our school families in need over the holiday season. Mrs. Collins, Mrs. Christopher, Mrs. Dressel, Mrs. Francois, Mrs. Hood, and Mrs. Johnson collected non-perishable food items over the past two weeks to help benefit many of our VGESS families! The grade level with the most donations earned of items earned extra recess time and get to play BINGO in the cafeteria. Thank you to our Coaches and Guidance Counselors for organizing this food drive for our families, this was a great way to kick off the holiday season!

Bayshore will have an Atten’DANCE’ incentive every quarter!  The class with the highest percentage of attendance in the grade bands of VPK-2 and 3-5 will earn a 20-minute dance party during the school day.  Students will have the opportunity to socialize, dance, and enjoy an ice pop for showing up.
