WCE Welcomes WPBF

Britley Ritz, WPBF Meteorologist, received a warm welcome from White City Wildcats before she even stepped foot on campus.    She recently visited the school to share an interactive and informative weather lesson on weather systems that included thunderstorms, tornadoes, tropical systems, and rip currents — all very relevant to students in South Florida.  A big shout out to WPBF and their on-going support to stay involved with our students!                  

WCE Teams Up with FAU Track Star for “Workout Wednesday”

White City Elementary’s 5th-grade students got a special dose of inspiration and athletic energy during this week’s “Wildcat Workout Wednesday,” thanks to a visit from SLPS Graduate and current Florida Atlantic University track athlete Richelle Williams. WBE Empowers Students Through the Girls on the Run Program

During the fall season, Weatherbee Elementary girls have learned a wide range of skills through the empowering Girls on the Run program. Students have learned to become contributing members of a team, make good choices in their own personal lives, become leaders, and much more. Way to go Mariners!

WBE Celebrates Read Across America

Weatherbee students and staff celebrated Read Across America and Dr. Suess by reading on the morning show. Mariners enjoyed dressing up in their Dr. Suess inspired shirts, hats, and outfits.

Way to Glow, Sharks!

St. Lucie West K8 students in Ms. Paries’ class used a bright strategy to identify clue words within an informational text focused on chronological order text structure. Students collaborated in pairs with their interactive notebooks underneath a black light to highlight the sequence of events!

Wax Museum at FPC

Fort Pierce Central High School concluded Black History Month with a first-ever interactive wax museum. Students, parents, and staff interacted with students from Mrs. Embrey’s Speech and Debate Club, Mrs. Nance, and Ms. Kelly. The wax exhibitors portrayed famous African American Freedom Figures, Abraham Lincoln, Chadwick Boseman, and many more. Exhibits “came to life” with a short presentation informing the audience about the person along with their achievements and interesting life events. The audience enjoyed the event and the presenters enjoyed showing their talents.    

Watercolor Science Models at CAST

CAST sixth grade students in Mrs. Albers’ science class learned about the structures and functions of major organelles of plants and animal cells. Students created a 2D model of a cell using watercolor techniques to illustrate and identify the similarities and differences found within the animal and plant cells.

Water Woman Visits SLWK8

Shark Nation Students in grades Kindergarten through fifth were treated to a special visit from Water Woman, the City of Port St. Lucie Utility Systems Department’s community superhero. With the indelible support of our incredible resource teachers, STEAM resource teacher Mr. Arias-Gutiérrez was able to coordinate this fun and engaging program, where students learned about the infinite water cycle, water sourcing and reclamation, and everyday conservation practices. Water Safety at Weatherbee

Thanks to the Partnership in Education between Weatherbee Elementary and the United States Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce, Weatherbee’s first, third, and fifth graders were able to learn about water safety. Seaman Fawn Moro delivered an informative presentation, teaching the students how to stay safe in, on, and around the water. After the presentation, the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary set up the ‘Let’s Talk Trash Game’ and the ‘Fishing Game’ for the students to learn the importance of keeping our waterways clean. Water Cycle Sharks at SLWK8

Fifth graders in Ms. Kalio’s class worked collaboratively to complete a science experiment about the Water Cycle! Students started by making predictions as to how water from the ocean becomes rain over land. They created a landscape model out of clay and poured water over the model. They covered their container with plastic wrap and secured it with a rubber band. It was placed in a sunny spot and students observed how water moved throughout the landscape. After, students analyzed and recorded their data!

Warriors On the Water

By: Syanna Graham Port St. Lucie High School showed its support at the event for Warriors On the Water. The Jaguar Battalion attended the event and presented the colors. The Color Guard was led by Cadet Major Dallas Reyes carrying the national flag, and Cadet Command Sergeant Major Damilola Jolaogun carrying the state flag. Cadet Corporal Noel Cruz and Cadet Staff Sergeant D’Eric Merrit posted as guards. The students enjoyed participating in the event and the warriors appreciated their appearance.

Wands Up: Fairlawn Elementary Fourth-Grade Brings the Magic

Fourth-grade at Fairlawn Elementary School put such a fun and creative spin on getting ready for their reading state test with a Harry Potter-themed poetry review! To make things extra exciting, students were sorted into different Hogwarts houses and worked together to earn points by answering questions correctly. The room was full of energy, teamwork, and just the right amount of friendly competition. Everyone was eager to help their house come out on top and show what they know! Wampler Applauded For Leadership

  St. Lucie West Centennial High School Junior Kaylee Wampler was applauded for her student leadership efforts at May’s School Board Meeting.  She has already started making her mark and lending her voice to causes for which she feels passion. Most recently, she was an eloquent speaker at the League of Women Voters.  In addition, she organized the March for Our Lives in Port St. Lucie. Kaylee is to be admired for her advocacy, self-empowerment, and encouragement to engage others in positive community action.

Walmart Distribution Center Makes Donation

The Office of Teaching and Learning thank Walmart Distribution Center for awarding the Walmart Community Grant to the Early Childhood Department in order to support superior professional development. The $2000.00 award supports the Early Childhood Conference and on-going professional development in St. Lucie County.

Walmart Distribution Center Is Recognized
