Mentoring program at Gaines Academy helps students develop leadership and life skills

The students and staff at Samuel S. Gaines Academy are very appreciative to the mentors from the Calvary Compassion Church, who act as mentors for students in the Butterfly Tea mentoring group. Mentors assist student mentees with leadership strengths, and build on improving challenges, and expose mentees to best-practice in leadership and life skills. Mel Fisher Pop-Up Museum at Village Green’s Media Center

This year’s Mel Fisher Pop-Up Museum’s theme is “The Bermuda Triangle.” Media Specialist, Mrs. Sievers, has put together the 8 panels that the Museum consists of for her students to enjoy over the past few weeks. Students were able to learn about the fascinating history of the Bermuda Triangle, learning all about the facts and the fantasies that came along with it! Medical academy students participate in disaster drill

St. Lucie West Centennial High School students in Mary Higgins’ and Elizabeth Durkee’s first responder and other medical academy classes participated in the recent Operation Home Run disaster drill. The exercise was held throughout the county at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center, St. Lucie Medical Center, Met Stadium, and the new Martin Memorial Medical Center in Tradition. St. Lucie West Centennial students were located at St. Lucie Medical Center. When the students arrived, the volunteer moulage artists brought real medical scenarios to life. All students did a really good job acting out their parts. ST. LUCIE COUNTY – Fort Pierce Central High School’s Wrestling Team won its first Regional Wrestling Title since 1995. The 3A Region 3 Champs qualified 11 athletes for the state tournament. LUCIE COUNTY, FL  — In a competitive academic competition, local high school teams competed for top honors and individual team members vied for a seat on the prestigious Team St. Lucie – an elite six-member team representing St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) at the 34th Annual Commissioner’s Academic Challenge. Kindergarteners at CAST learned about the Medal of Honor and discussed all the ways we can be good citizens at school and at home. Students read a variety of literature stories and responded to these texts. We promise to be super citizens!

The School Board joins Governor Ron DeSantis in extending greetings and best wishes to all observing March 25, 2019 as Medal of Honor Day in Florida. Lincoln Park Academy Principal Henry Sanabria (former U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant) and Port St. Lucie High School Principal Adrian Ocampo (former U.S. Marine Lance Corporal) read the Proclamation. All grade levels in public schools are encouraged to coordinate instruction that encourages patriotism and commemorates Medal of Honor Day.
