Morningside Elementary students research prehistoric animals of Florida

Morningside Elementary fourth grade students enjoy a presentation using puppets of prehistoric animals provided by Florida Industrial and Phosphate Research Institute. Along with their presentation they had the opportunity to interact with learning & development facilitator Indria Sukhraj from the institute.

Morningside Elementary Students Recognized As Florida Elementary Finalist for NEED Project

On September 9, 2014 Morningside Elementary students were also recognized as the Florida Elementary Finalist for NEED (National Energy Education Development) Project at the School Board Meeting. The project advisor was Mollie Mukhamedov. Pictured are Chairman Debbie Hawley and Superintendent Genelle Yost in the back row; Isabella Cruz and Grace Robinson in the front row. Morningside Elementary Students Make Connections with Content!

As part of the first Social Studies topic, students in Mrs. Eibl’s class learned that citizens can write letters to the President and mail them to the White House. Each student wrote and asked questions. Letters will be mailed out to see if we get a response. Fingers crossed! #MSEshinesBRIGHT

Morningside Elementary students learn about gardening

Morningside Elementary School students in Rose Pazos’ fifth grade class have been maintaining a garden they planted with coaching from science teacher Mar Lou Jennings. The garden includes a sensory area, a flower area, and a vegetable area. The vegetables include broccoli, mustards, tomatoes, turnips, eggplant, bell peppers, brussel sprouts, and purple and green cabbage.  

Morningside Elementary students learn about fire safety

Students in Diane Eibl’s Kindergarten class at Morningside Elementary were visited by two firefighters this week. Firefighters Wayne and Dan, from Station 17, came in to teach students about fire safety. The students were reminded to STOP, DROP and ROLL, DON’T HIDE, GO OUTSIDE, FALL AND CRAWL. They were given the homework to make sure each has a family fire escape plan. The children enjoyed the visit, especially the part when they got to put on the turnout gear!

Morningside Elementary Students Host Booth at IRL Science Festival

At the 10th Annual Indian River Lagoon Science Festival, held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., students from Morningside Elementary proudly represented their school as Everglades Ambassadors and participants in the Need Project. These enthusiastic young learners hosted an engaging conservation booth, sharing their knowledge and passion for environmental stewardship with festival attendees. The event, which was free to the public, featured a wide variety of interactive exhibits from organizations across the Treasure Coast, along with exciting stage performances, raffles, and other family-friendly activities. Morningside Elementary Students Explore in Science Resource

In Mrs. Rodriguez’s Science Resource class at Morningside Elementary, students are diving into an engaging hands-on investigation of the properties and states of matter. Working collaboratively, they explore how different materials compare in both volume and mass by using a variety of measurement tools and recording their data. Students practice scientific skills with instruments such as graduated cylinders for measuring liquid volume, triple-beam balances and digital scales for determining mass, and beakers and measuring cups to observe changes and record precise measurements. Morningside Elementary Students Exercise Their Brains!

Fifth Grade students in Coach McKenna and Coach Sides’ MTSS group participated in a fun and engaging coordinate graphing activity on Friday in the PE area. Students had to pick a cone and name the coordinates. Once they lifted the cones, students either found prizes or a chance to roll the exercise cube.

Morningside Elementary students attend a PBS dress code dance

  Morningside Elementary students Yasmine Taveras, Jocelyn Ortega, Leilani Warner, Emily Casler and Summer McDonough enjoy dancing together at the Dress Code dance that the PBS team sponsored. Students in grades K- 5 were able to attend the dance if they were in dress code the entire first semester of the school year.

Morningside Elementary Student Council Cleans Up

The Student Council of Morningside Elementary showcased their leadership and commitment to the environment by organizing a litter clean-up event around the playground. On a sunny day, students equipped with gloves and trash bags gathered to beautify their school grounds. Together, they picked up litter, ensuring that the playground remained a clean and safe space for all students to enjoy. Morningside Elementary second graders create commercials

Renee Barnes’ second grade RtI class divided into small groups to create commercials. Dariusz Dobrowolski, Jade Magranelo, Jackson Chism, Kendall Norton, and Taylor Leonard sold pickles and cucumbers. The group decided what they needed to say and how to act to make people want to buy their product. They rehearsed their parts and presented their commercial to the class.

Morningside Elementary School’s Veterans Day Ceremony Color Guard

On Wednesday November 7, 2018, Port St. Lucie High School’s Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion’s color guard presented the national colors as students said the Pledge of Allegiance and sang the National Anthem. Opening the Morningside Elementary Veterans Day Ceremony and commanding the color guard was Cadet Sergeant Lawrence Moleon Mathews accompanied by Cadet Command Sergeant Major as state flag bearer, Cadet Sergeant Justin Bennett as national guard, and Cadet Sergeant Michael Schmitt as state guard. Veterans were welcomed into the cafeteria where they sat down and enjoyed various students sing songs and thank them for their service.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY — Morningside Elementary School students are charged for their trip to Washington, D.C. as the Florida Elementary School of the Year for Energy Achievement. The National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project selected Morningside Elementary as the Florida Elementary School of the Year and National Elementary School Runner-up.   NEED encourages and rewards student leadership and innovation by sponsoring a Youth Awards Program for Energy Achievement. Morningside Elementary School Makes Virtual Learning Fun

The students in Mr. Bevacqua’s fifth grade class at Morningside Elementary School engage in a lesson on measurement.  Mr. B, as the students call him, shows off his cooking skills and provides the students with safety tips as he makes one of his favorite dishes, Pico de Gallo.  Way to go Mr. Bevacqua for being creative and sharing your talents virtually with the students in the class!
