Savanna Ridge Elementary’s 3rd grade math teacher, Mrs. Sanchez, took her classes outdoors to enjoy a beautiful day, while working on a math measurement lesson. Claretha Robinson was recognized at the School Board Meeting on January 13th as a STAR (Special Thanks And Recognition) recipient. Ms. Robinson is the front office clerk for Fort Pierce Westwood High School. Because of the nature of what she does, many times she receives the brunt of those that come in and may be upset, however she always remains true to form. Ms. Mellion’s Class Simplified Fractions and Created Expressions

Ms. Mellion’s 2nd Period reviewed simplifying fractions after teaching students how to relate division to fractions. Students were able to work in groups with whiteboards for better understanding. They were excited to be able to tell the difference between simplified fractions and not simplified to smallest form fractions. Students are also learning about creating expressions with and without solving.

Ms. Grant’s Middle School Students Transform Their Writing into Amazing Presentations with Canva!

Ms. Grant’s middle school students at Allapattah Flats K-8 are taking their procedural writing skills to the next level by using the graphic design program called “Canva.” This program allows them to transform their writing into engaging presentations. Students are using this opportunity to teach their peers various tasks such as “how to care for your cat” and “how to make friends.” The Canva program has a voiceover feature that students are utilizing to record themselves whenever they are using their voice or a communication device. What an awesome day to be in first grade! On Friday we got to dress up and show off our favorite characters in the book of our choice! Everyone in Mrs. West’s first grade class participated by reading their favorite book. Students completed a brown bag book report which included describing the characters, settings, and events of a fictional story. (RL.1.3). Mrs. Taufa’s Geometry Class just completed a unit of study on Transformations. They learned that a transformation is a manipulation of a geometric shape or formula that maps the shape or formula from its preimage, or original position, to its image, or after-transformation position. Mrs. Jennings’ Kindergarten Class Learns All About Antonyms

Mrs. Jennings’ Kindergarten class aims for fun with antonyms! Students learned about “opposites” through an engaging lesson on Nearpod. Students incorporated Conversation Hearts and other environmental print to discuss words that means the same, and words that mean the opposite.
