Mariposa Elementary VPK Explores Sentence Structure

In Ms. Bonilla’s VPK class at Mariposa Elementary, students have been discussing what sentences are, the parts of a sentence, and how to build a sentence. Students were given a sentence on a strip, completed some shared reading, and went around their tables reading each of the sentences. The students were able to pick up on the pattern of “I can” and decode words by looking at a visual. Afterwards, they rebuillt their sentences since they had been deconstructed. PSLHS JROTC Participates in State Championship Drill Competition

On Saturday April 13, 2019, Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion’s drill team took 32 cadets to compete at the State Drill Meet at George W. Jenkins High School in Lakeland, Florida. The drill team competed in five regulation events: Female Armed and Unarmed Platoon, Male Unarmed and Armed Squad, and Male Unarmed Platoon. The Jaguar Battalion Drill team also competed in six exhibitions: Female Exhibition Squad and Platoon along with Male Exhibition Squad and Platoon. Samuel Gaines Academy Fundraiser for March of Dimes

The students of Samuel S. Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies were excited to raise money to benefit the March of Dimes.  Students were asked to make donations and they were able to choose a bucket in which to place their donations. Each bucket represented a different administrator on campus.  The administrators’ buckets with the most money received a pie in the face!  Students could also purchase raffle tickets to be chosen as a pie thrower.  Thank you to everyone at SGAET who donated to this worthy cause!

Registered voters recently received a mail-in ballot.  To ensure your vote counts, it must be mailed by this Friday — April 19th.   This referendum supports teacher pay, safety on our campuses, and mental health services for our children.

St. Lucie County Firefighters Visit FPCHS

The St. Lucie County Fire District brought firefighters and fire trucks to visit a class at Fort Pierce Central High School.  The students spent the afternoon learning about fire safety, finding out what it takes to be a firefighter, and exploring a fire truck.  Thank you to SLCFD for making the visit so enjoyable for our students!

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – St. Lucie Public Schools is proud to announce that Morningside Elementary’s (MSE) Odyssey of the Mind Team won first place at the state competition and is advancing to the World Finals competition slated for May 21 – May 26 in Lansing, Michigan. MSE’s team will convene with approximately 850 other teams for what is deemed to be the largest creative problem-solving competition. Northport K-8 Navigators Promote “Adopt Don’t Shop!”

Northport K-8 middle school art class students created an art project with the theme Adopt Don’t Shop in hopes of raising awareness of the adoption for cats and dogs. Students created a colorful background collage using reused paper, creating a new purpose for the paper. The collage served as a symbolic gesture for animals because those who are adopted gain a new purpose in life. Once the collage was completed, students created a dog or a cat using oil pastels for the eyes, nose, and face. Dominic, a 6th grader, stated, “The important thing I did was make a dog … Read More

Environmental Studies Expo

On Saturday, May 4, Village Green Environmental Studies School will host a community Environmental Studies Exposition.  From 10AM to noon, students will serve as tour guides for guests and will provide information about the school’s permaculture garden, raised bed gardens, astronomy night activities, solar energy kits, and weather stations.  

2nd Annual Culinary Cook-Off

The 2nd Annual Student Culinary Cook-Off is a collaboration between Child Nutrition Services and the Career and Technical Education Culinary Arts Program. The purpose of the event is to provide student chefs with the opportunity to create and showcase enticing entrees that their peers would enjoy while following the USDA guidelines for the National School Lunch Program. This year’s champion team is St. Lucie West Centennial High School.  Their winning entree, Braised BBQ Pork Flatbread, will be placed on the school lunch menu for the 2019-2020 school year.  

Northport K-8 Culinary Arts Students Shine

Northport K-8 Culinary Arts students participated in the 2nd Annual Culinary Cook Off. Students were asked to design and produce a dessert recipe using all food commodities from our food services or cafeteria. Northport students created a cake using 51% wheat flour and low sugar standards set by the USDA. CAST Teacher Among Elite Group to Attend Geosciences Camp

FORT PIERCE, FL – Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie’s (CAST) eighth grade science teacher, Aaron Barnes, was selected to represent CAST at Texas A & M University’s G-Camp through their College of Geosciences. The acceptance into this program is an extreme honor as only 50 teachers in the United States are chosen for this opportunity. G-Camp is a 20-day field camp for teachers that provides first-hand experience with the principles of geology in the field. Male Youth Summit

The inaugural Male Youth Summit at Performance Based Preparatory Academy was a collaboration between the Bethune-Cookman University’s Male Development Institute and the Omicron Tau (Treasure Coast) Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Male students in grades six through twelve attended this event and participated in breakout sessions covered topics such as: dressing for success, grades, mental health, and time management.    

Five Star School Award

The Five Star School Award was created by the Commissioner’s Community Involvement Council and is presented annually to those schools that have shown evidence of exemplary community involvement. In order to earn Five Star School recognition, a school must show documentation that it has achieved 100 percent of the established criteria in the following categories.
