Southport Middle School students and staff took part in a virtual “Inspiration Day” to help everyone feel a little more at ease with our new distance learning initiative. Students and teachers used their new learning platform to upload inspirational selfies, some even with their pets. Youth Volunteer – Alexis Wilson – Port St. Lucie High School Alexis enjoys giving back to people in the form of volunteering.  She accumulated approximately 131 community service hours within her high school JROTC program. Her volunteer activities include parking details at football games, providing daycare services, and assisting at the Botanical Gardens.  She also helps at Southport Middle with school events.  Furthermore, she has been volunteering at her church since she was 12 years old. School campuses will remain closed for the rest of the 2019-2020 school year as recommended by Governor DeSantis. St. Lucie Public Schools will continue Distance Learning until the school year ends on June 2nd. The health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority. St. Lucie Public Schools to Recognize Class of 2020 with Virtual Graduations

St. Lucie Public Schools will celebrate the Class of 2020 with virtual graduations in May, but is committed to holding live graduations at an outdoor site in late June if it is safe to do so based on guidance from the Florida Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Weatherbee Kicks Off Literacy Week 2020

Weatherbee Mariners kicked off Literacy Week  with a school wide read-aloud courtesy of Mrs. Cassie Fess, AP, and Ms. Juliette Thelusma, Teacher on Special Assignment. They read The Invisible Boy by Trudy Ludwig.  More activities are planned throughout the week.

Bayshore First Graders Celebrate iReady Proficiency!

Students in Mrs. Glidden’s first grade class at Bayshore Elementary have been working hard to increase their i-Ready proficiency rates. Recently many students reached 100% proficiency in reading and math iReady lessons. They were given certificates and accolades by their peers for their hard work. Congratulations!

TCHS Titan Ambassadors Treat Windmill Point Students to Shopping Spree!

On Monday, December 16th, the Titan Ambassadors from TCHS took several Windmill Point Elementary students to Target to spread holiday cheer and help them shop for gifts for themselves and their family. The students were gifted a $100 gift card, and the students were paired up with a Titan Ambassador to help them shop.  The students were treated to a fun bus ride to and from the event, where they sang holiday songs and bonded with the high schoolers. Morningside 5th Graders Launch Rockets

Fifth Grade students at Morningside Elementary learned lessons in motion and energy. They designed, built and launched rockets along with their teachers and former Morningside teacher, Tom Filipkowski. The students enjoyed their experience and gained a deeper understanding of science standards.

WEST Prep Selected as a Finalist in the STEM Excellence awards

The Steam Advocates, with the help of several teachers and students, applied for an international award from the Future of Education Technology Conference (FETC) in “STEM Excellence.”  They have been selected as 1 of 3 high school finalists from across the country! This is an amazing accomplishment for Fort Pierce Westwood Academy: The WEST Prep Magnet. The faculty and staff are dedicated to the implementation of the STEAM school initiatives and this award would not be possible without their hard work for our students’ success. Eagle Scout Project Directly Impacts Students At Mosaic Digital Academy!

Congratulations to Adam Morgan (11th Grader) at Mosaic Digital Academy for earning the prestigious Eagle Scout accomplishment! As a full time public virtual school student, Adam served on Mosaic Digital Academy’s School Advisory Council and kept up with his online courses as well as his dual enrollment coursework. Serving on the School Advisory Council provided Adam with a keen understanding of not only the successes of our school program, but he also came to know some of the struggles students sometimes experience when separated from their peers as they school from home. SLWK8 Civics Class Gets Visit From Deputy Chief Woods

Students from Mr. Artiles’ 7th grade Civics class at St. Lucie West K-8 School received a visit from Mark Woods, Deputy Chief of Safety and Security for St. Lucie Public Schools. Students invited Mr. Woods to present to their class as part of their Project Citizen topic of School Violence Prevention. Deputy Chief Woods shared current school violence prevention measures already in place in the school district, including monthly Code Red drills, and perimeter security. Pre-Kindergarten at Mariposa Elementary is Building Sentences

At Mariposa Elementary, Mrs. Bonilla’s Pre-Kindergarten class answered the following focus question during literacy centers: How do we build sentences? The students spoke about sentences being made up of words and how some can be short, and some can be long. Students were shown a photograph where they needed to use vocabulary to explain what was happening in the photo. Afterwards as a team, they would agree on a sentence and Mrs. Bonilla would then write each word on a post it. Each child would then put a “post it” on a building block.
