Young Scientists Learn Research Skills at Morningside

Morningside Elementary students in Mrs. Eibl’s second-grade class refined their research skills when they spent time during their enrichment MTSS block researching an animal that lives in Antarctica or the region. After becoming the class expert on their habitats and animals, they integrated technology by creating a PowerPoint presentation and then building a replica of their habitat before sharing their skills and knowledge with classmates.

Young Park Volunteer Twice Honored at State Level

Recognizing the success and accomplishments of Justin Lee, a senior at Lincoln Park Academy For the past 5 years, Justin Lee has volunteered his free time at the Savannas preserve State Park, accumulating more than 2,000 volunteer hours! Young Floridian Scholarship Winners

For 35 years the Young Floridian Scholarship program has honored the most stellar high school seniors in St. Lucie County. Currently run through the St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce Foundation, this community-supported program awards scholarships to deserving students with pomp and circumstance at an annual awards ceremony. This year’s winners were announced onstage, the evening of February 20th at Indian River State College’s McAlpin Fine Arts Center. Each winner received a $1,000 scholarship to the college or university of their choice and/or a two-year full scholarship to IRSC. Winners were awarded in 15 categories. Young Entrepreneurs Shine at Palm Pointe K-8 Student Market Day

Palm Pointe K–8 was buzzing with energy as families, students, and community members gathered for the PTO’s Student Market Day. The Palm Pointe Auditeria transformed into a lively marketplace where student entrepreneurs proudly showcased their creativity, hard work, and business skills. From handmade items to imaginative products, each student-run booth reflected thoughtful planning and a true entrepreneurial spirit. The event offered something for everyone. Guests enjoyed food trucks, inflatable games, and activities that added to the family-friendly atmosphere. Young Authors celebration held at Manatee Academy

The St. Lucie County Young Author Celebration sponsored by the St. Lucie County Reading Council was recently held at Manatee Academy. Over 200 parents and students enjoyed author Donna Gephart, a light lunch, book fair and free books and prizes. Pictured is the organization’s Executive Council, who made the event happen, from left, Vince Scotto, Debbie Remington, Wanda Galey, Dorothy Still and Alma Goff.

Our 3rd–5th Grade Mosaic Owls had an unforgettable visit yesterday from the Oxbow Eco-Center, where students got up close with snakes, turtles, and other fascinating Florida wildlife! Hands-on experiences like these help students connect science to the real world—understanding how animals adapt to their habitats, how ecosystems stay in balance, and how our choices impact the environment we share. A huge thank-you to our visiting wildlife scientist from Oxbow for bringing the wonders of nature to life! Ahoy Mateys and Scalawags! After completing their unit on Maps and Globes, students in Mrs. Eibl’s class donned their hats and patches to create a Pirate Treasure Map with all the components of maps: they named the map and island, labeled oceans, created a map key, compass rose, and directions to the buried treasure. Writing Wizard Visits Palm Pointe

Second grade students from Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition in Lorri Rudzinski’s class had a special visitor. The Writing Wizard, aka James Dean from Thinking Maps, stopped by to provide writing instruction. There were rich discussions on Making Our Writing more precise using a Bridge Map. Writing Excellence

The Florida Retired Educators Association made a special presentation to Northport rising 6th grader Jayden Diago for her outstanding accomplishment in writing. Jayden Diago won the Florida Retired Educators Association District 9 essay contest this year. District 9 encompasses five counties including St. Lucie, Martin, Okeechobee, Highlands, and Indian River.  Students were asked to write about  “Moments with My Grandparents.”  Jayden wrote about her grandpa or jampa who lives in the Phillapines in her essay entitled “My Occasional Jampa.”  Even though she is only able to visit with her jampa occasionally, her memories are special ones and his energy as well … Read More
