CAST Up-Cycles!

Middle School Visual Arts students collaborated with the St. Lucie Cultural Alliance, St. Lucie Environmental Resources Department and Oxbow Eco-Center to create up-cycling sculptures for the St. Lucie Earth Day Festival. Students learned facts about recyclable materials and being good stewards of our natural resources and environment.  Students were provided recyclable items by the St. Lucie Environmental Resources Department and created their up-cycled sculptures by integrating objects like metal clothes hangers, plastic water and soda bottles, bottle caps, plastic beads, foam, textiles, and paper products to help create their animal forms.  Students also used stones to create different pieces of … Read More

PTO Sponsored Spring Carnival a Success at SLWK8 School

St. Lucie West K-8 students, teachers, staff, and volunteers enjoyed a warm, breezy, spring day at the annual PTO sponsored Spring Carnival! Everyone enjoyed a variety of bounce houses, fun and competitive games, a petting zoo, train rides, a dunk tank, and delicious treats. All reveled in the camaraderie and friendships that have been built throughout the year before culminating with the end-of-the-year assessments. A BIG THANK YOU to SLWK 8’s PTO for planning such a memorable event for our Shark family.  

Phases of the Moon at Samuel S. Gaines Academy

Samuel S. Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies’ fourth graders wrapped up their science units for the year with a study of the earth, the moon, and the constellations. Students studied models and the movement of the earth and the moon. Fourth graders depicted the phases of the moon around the earth with a 3D model and took turns demonstrating its movement.

First Grade Poetry Café at Mariposa Elementary!

First grade had a Poetry Café! Each student in the class was able to get on stage and read aloud a poem of their choosing. We were lucky enough to have so many wonderful spectators observe all our hard work. Thank you to all that came to share in our special moments!

FPC is Louder Than a BOMB!

FPC Poison Pens Win AGAIN! Fort Pierce Central’s Poison Pens won first place in the state during Jason Taylor’s Louder Than a Bomb Spoken Word Poetry Slam! This is the second time they have taken home the top prize. We are very proud of our poets: Laura Eugene, Trinity Scott, Emerson Dent, Alli Smith, Jay Valentin, and Taylor Prescott!!! NEED Project Selects Morningside Elementary as Florida School of the Year

The National Energy Education Development (NEED) project congratulated Morningside Elementary for an outstanding energy education project and selected our school as the Florida School of the Year. The mission of the NEED project is to promote an energy conscious and educated society by creating networks of students, teachers, educators, and business, government, and community leaders to design and deliver objective, multi-sided energy education programs. Fifth graders completed a project that included learning and teaching others about the science of energy. Students hosted an energy expo at the Earth Day festival at the Oxbow center last weekend.

FSA Pep Rallies at Mariposa Elementary

Mariposa Elementary recently held pep rallies for their third, fourth, and fifth graders. Mrs. Whitaker and Ms. Patton led the group with several cheers. Kindergarten, first, and second graders showed their support with posters and cards, and teachers prepared skits and cheers as well.        

Southport Middle School Honors Band Director Mr. Jim LeBon

Family, friends, former students, and colleagues through the years, gathered to honor Mr. Jim LeBon and celebrate his 40 years of service as a band director at his annual Spring Band Concert. The evening began with a surprise reception with family, friends, and colleagues as well as performances in the courtyard by Port St. Lucie High School and Treasure Coast High School bands, where many of his former band students are now in attendance. Lincoln Park Academy Students4H2O celebrate Earth Day 2022 at their new garden plot at the Fort Pierce Community Garden! Having this plot not only aligns with the United Nations missions of Global Goal 13: Climate Action and Global Goal 15: Life on Land, but allows Students4H2O members to have hands-on interactions with their environment. 2022 Field Day Legacy Owl Trophy Winner!

On Friday, April 22nd, 2022, Mosaic Digital Academy 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students participated in the school’s first annual Field Day event. Teachers, students, and families gathered at McChesney Park to participate in Earth Day-themed events such as the Water Savers Race, Save the Endangered Wood Stork Egg Challenge, and the Pizza Box Recycle Relay. Field Day classics like the Potato Sac and Wheelbarrow Races were also entertaining and competitive challenges for owl students. Gaines Stop & STEM Day

At Samuel Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies, early release means “Stop and STEM Day”, where ALL students look forward to participating in fun STEM activities. This month’s theme was ESCAPE ROOMS. Each grade level was given escape room materials that were designed specifically for the students to be successful, yet required problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Ms. La Bare’s students loved being included in solving problems, puzzles, riddles, and codes to discover the pirates lost treasure! To top it off, the students made pirate hats and eye patches to get into the spirit of the day.

CAST Goes to the History Fair

St. Lucie Public Schools hosted their 30th Annual History Day district fair on February 21-25. National History Day is a historical research project that allows for a creative display of research, based on the theme of Debate and Diplomacy. 8th grader Kaleel Dennis was selected to move on to the Florida National History Day competition. Kaleel submitted a paper on “The Politics of the Reconstruction Era”.
