Kindergarten, first, and second-grade students learned all about fire safety, and they also learned about our firefighter friends from St. Lucie County’s Engine 15! Students now know how to check smoke detectors, how to make a fire escape plan, and how to call 9-1-1! Thank you for keeping us safe! 

On Saturday, April 23rd, Fairlawn Elementary’s Student Council met to help beautify the campus. The boys and girls collected trash around the school grounds. Following the clean-up, the students made bracelets and keychains for the Fairlawn teachers and staff in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week. Thank you to JBR Exteriors for sponsoring the event.

We are so proud of our leaders at CAST! We are so happy to be able to recognize our Leaders of the Month who demonstrate exemplary leadership skills in the Leader in Me Habit 6 “Synergize”, and Habit 7  “Sharpen the Saw”, in our first live ceremony this year. Our Student Ambassadors helped run the ceremony and our sixth-grade dancers performed. Way to go CAST performers!  

The Federal Communications Commission recently announced that 20 of the nation’s internet providers have committed to lowering costs for low-income households, a step that will essentially provide free high-speed internet for those participating in the Affordable Connectivity Program. The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is a U.S. government program that helps many low-income households pay for broadband service and internet connected devices. Kindergarten, first and second graders visited with CAST’s very own Deputy Reid to learn more about community helpers. We learned about how to stay safe, stranger danger, and the ins and outs of his many safety tools! Thank you, Deputy Reid! 

A Texas Roadhouse sponsored lunch with Mariposa Elementary’s Deputy Miller! This is one of ten incentives students could receive for doing their best on the FSA! Others included Principal for the Day, Asst. Principal for the Day, lunches with other leadership team members, and taping the Principal to the wall!

Parkway Elementary School hosted a drive-through event to provide families with resources to prevent the summer slide. Students and families picked up resources for reading, math, SEL, and STEAM to support their summer learning adventures!

Dr. Sam Gaines, local businessman and former School Board member, invited students from Fort Pierce Westwood Academy WEST Prep’s African American History class to tour his childhood home and business and share stories of local history. The students were mesmerized by the depth of historical accounts Dr. Gaines has and the familial knowledge of multiple generations of residents. Dr. Gaines shared his memories of a segregated Fort Pierce and the progress through his lifetime. Mrs. Nuñez’s fourth grade class recently held Camp Learn-a-Lot! They had a campfire, tents, and some s’mores! All this helped them review their math standards. They even got introduced to some fifth grade standards too!

“Beat It” by Michael Jackson, “Zombie” by the Cranberries, and “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King were just some of the rock classics Mr. Guess’ CAST Rock Band performed at their rock concert! There were also several keyboard ensembles and solos! We are blinded by all the talent at CAST!    

Graduating senior alumni were invited to walk Fairlawn’s halls in their caps and gowns. Fairlawn’s current students and staff congratulated them as they walked. A small reception was held in their honor where the seniors enjoyed seeing their elementary classmates and their 5th grade pictures on display! We are so proud of each of them and wish them much success in their futures.

We are so proud of our 8th grade Musical Theater students; they did an amazing job at their last CAST performance! Their skits and monologues were led by Mr. Rahming. We will miss them! 

The Nursing Assistant students at Fort Pierce Central High School earned their Certified Nursing Assistant industry certification. Students, through this Board of Nursing approved training program, are able to earn this industry-recognized certification for entry-level employment opportunities and/or apply skills and knowledge to further their education. Congratulations to Ms. Lorraine Young and her students!

Lawnwood students and staff enjoyed the FSA Pep Rally. Students were reminded to demonstrate their best effort and strive for learning gains and proficiency. WE GOT THIS!

Fourth grade students in Mrs. Denman and Mrs. Tyler’s class took the initiative to clean up CAST’s campus instead of having recess. They decided to dedicate every Tuesday to picking up trash around our school. They also used recycled containers to plant seeds!

FPC Advanced Culinary Students cooked and served dinner and desserts for the annual fundraising event of the Democratic Club of St. Lucie County at River Walk in Fort Pierce on Friday, May 6, 2022. The meal included:  antipasto charcuterie board, fruit salad, tossed salad, roast pork loin with an apple/bacon/onion sauce, roast turkey with herb gravy, roasted vegetable medley, parmesan butter mashed potatoes, pasta station cooked to order with marinara sauce, or alfredo sauce, and assorted desserts made by Culinary 1 Students.
