PSLHS Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month!

Students in Mrs. Brigitte Martin’s Spanish classes celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month this week at Port St. Lucie High School. Students participated in a variety of activities over the past few weeks to grasp a better understanding of Hispanic Heritage and cultures at Port St. Lucie High. 

Floresta First Graders Learn from a Furry Visitor

Ms. Debbie from 4-H visited the first grade with her new service puppy Buddy. Students learned how to care for a pet, the basic needs of pets, and how to approach a strange pet. Students enjoyed getting to pet and interact with Buddy.

Jaguars Take Off!

On October 1st, 2022, the Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Raiders hosted the 1st Raider meet of their season. The Raider competition consisted of 5 events: a 2.3-mile run, 1-mile litter carry, HUMVEE push, constructing and crossing a rope bridge, and tire flip. The Jaguar Battalion male and female teams placed 1st overall and the mixed team placed 2nd. Congrats to all the teams as they compete next week at South Fork High School.

Save a Watt – Save a Lot at Weatherbee!

Many thanks to science teacher Ms. Donovan for arranging and scheduling the entertaining FPL program for Weatherbee’s second and third graders. Students had a great time learning ways to conserve energy!

A Day of Creating for SLPS Music and Art Teachers

SLPS Music and Art teachers had a fantastic day of learning, collaboration, and creating during their professional development day on September 23rd. All made possible through a partnership with the St. Lucie Education Foundation and St. Lucie Cultural Alliance. Teachers took textured art, abstract art, monoprinting, paper mache, mixed media, and communal drumming classes. The SLCA was all in for St. Lucie Public Schools! It was exciting to see this happen for these dedicated educators.  

Career & Technical Education’s Professional Development Hosted at Keiser University

Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers from middle and high school programs participated in multiple professional development (PD) sessions at Keiser University, Tradition Campus. The CTE Educators gained further insight into the articulation agreements, scholarship opportunities, and continuing education from Keiser University representatives (Mrs. Linda Fitzpatrick, Dr. Nicol, and Dr. Reed). Professional development opportunities included Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast, hosted by Ms. Emma Green and Mrs. Katie Thompson. TCHS AFJROTC Air Commando Team “Outruns Hunger”

The Treasure Coast High School AFJROTC Air Commando Team kicked off its season by running in the Treasure Coast Food Bank “Outrun Hunger” 5K on Saturday, September 17th. The 5K race, organized by the Treasure Coast Food Bank as a fundraiser and to raise awareness of food challenges in the Treasure Coast, was run along the intercoastal waterway in Ft. Pierce. Along with hundreds of other runners from the area, the TCHS cadets ran as a formation and helped support the Food Bank’s mission to end hunger in our region. Westwood JROTC Cadets Serve at Wreath & Rose Laying Ceremony

Cadets from the Fort Pierce Westwood Academy’s Army JROTC program served as an Honor Guard for the Annual Wreath and Rose Laying Ceremony, sponsored by the Treasure Coast Blue Star Mothers Organization. The event is to honor local Gold Star Families who have lost family members in the line of military duty. Not only did our Cadets serve as the Processional Path Honor Guard for arriving Gold Star Families, but Cadet Command Sergeant Major Ayden Gardner was given the honor of carrying the State Flag as part of the Vietnam Veterans of America organization Color Guard, to begin the ceremony. … Read More

Westwood Uncasing of the Colors

Musical Collaboration with Westwood & CAST

Westwood Band & Eurhythmics students performed at CAST as students arrived on campus. This collaboration encourages students to utilize Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind, as several students graduated from CAST. The connection between MSAP schools also focuses on one of the MSAP Pillars – family and community partnerships.

Palm Pointe and International Dot Day

Mrs. Schott’s 2nd through 5th grade Art classes created “Dots” based on Peter Renolds’ book “The Dot”.  September 15th was International Dot Day celebrating creativity, courage, and collaboration!  Students first listened to the story and were encouraged to express their creativity and individualism through creating a “Dot Masterpiece” of their own. 

Experimenting with Color at Westwood

Westwood’s AICE Marine Science 1 classes at MOA participated in a visible light experiment in the Ocean Lab at Harbor Branch. Students were able to get a clear understanding of how visible light was affected when traveling through the different depths of oceanic water. Through this fun and hands on lab experience, students were able to explain which colors would be most effective at camouflaging oceanic organisms at different depths of the ocean. They were able to walk out from the activity explaining why most marine deep sea organisms do not have traditional color vision.

SOMS Hispanic Heritage Celebration

Southern Oaks Middle School launched Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations by placing flags from Hispanic countries in our Hawks cafeteria. In addition, Ms. Ramirez displayed incredible projects from her World Language classes. Students chose a Hispanic country to research and created various displays to show off culture, food, celebrations, and history.

Westwood Students Complete a Field Study at Harbor Branch

Fort Pierce Westwood’s MOA Biology students partnered with Harbor Branch and applied Mark – Recapture methods to estimate field populations of snails. The snail populations were sampled to estimate abundance with the Lincoln – Petersen method by visiting the study site twice. The students got the opportunity to be involved in a field study which involved data analysis and graphing.

Cobra Nation Gathers at the Game

Whether on or off campus, you will likely hear Fort Pierce Central staff and students proclaim to be a proud part of Cobra Nation. So, what does Cobra Nation look like? Once a Cobra, Always a Cobra is more than a motto–it is a chant you can hear ring across campus and feel through the air throughout Cobra Nation. Cobra Nation fans have been coming out to celebrate in a big way, before and during the game for fellowship and festivities. Jaguar Battalion Participates in POW/MIA Ceremony

On Friday, September 16th, 2022, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion attended a ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park to pay their respects for Prisoners of War and Missing in Action Soldiers. Cadets who went to the ceremony held lit candles to represent the 7 different wars US Service Men and Women served in, in which many lives were lost.

9/13 Board Meeting Flag Folding Ceremony

During the September 13th board meeting, the Treasure Coast High School JROTC performed a flag folding ceremony for those in attendance.
