Sailor Sabol, a student at Saint Lucie West Centennial High School, has been selected to represent Port Saint Lucie, Florida as a National Youth Delegate to the 2018 Washington Youth Summit on the Environment at George Mason University. Sabol joins a select group of 300 students from across the country to participate in an intensive, week-long study of leadership in environmental science and conservation. Sailing into Kindergarten at WBE

Weatherbee Elementary welcomed their incoming Kindergarten Mariners during a “Sailing into Kindergarten” themed event.  Parents and students met their teachers, new Principal, and other staff members.  After learning about the school’s expectations, schedules, curriculum, and much more, each student received a Take Home Learning Kit for Literacy and Math.  The students were so excited, and the parents were thankful for these free tools to help them support their children’s learning at home.  Finally, they visited their classrooms and made a sailboat craft.

Safety Protocols for SLPS Athletic Games

METAL DETECTORS To enhance security, walk-through metal detectors will be in use periodically and unannounced at athletic events. BAG/BACKPACK GUIDELINES Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap are permitted. Large bags or backpacks will not be permitted at any St. Lucie Public Schools football games. We encourage you to plan accordingly and bring only essential items. FOOTBALL ENTRY RESTRICTIONS There will be no entry allowed after the start of the 3rd quarter. Please make sure to arrive on time to enjoy the full game experience.

At the June School Board Meeting, Crossing Guards Martha Lewis and Annette Wallace were recognized as STAR Award recipients for outstanding service to children and their community. Their positive contribution to the safe passage of students to and from school was appreciated by a citizen and shared with the District.  Both Ms. Lewis and Ms. Wallace are to be commended on their diligence at keeping children safe and drivers in check with safe speeds at the intersection of 13th Street and Virginia Avenue. We thank you and congratulate you for your service!

Friends, families, businesses, and organizations came together on Saturday, April 27th for a day of fun, food, festivities, and demonstrations at the 5th Annual Safety Fest held at the Digital Domain Stadium in Port St. Lucie. The Ft. Pierce Central High School JROTC Color Guard and St. Lucie West Centennial High School Band opened the event by presenting the Colors and playing the National Anthem. St. Lucie Public Schools was represented by Transportation, FDLRS, Media Services, Magnet School Programs, and General Programs of Study.

Third grade Allapattah Flats K8 student Sadie Garcia, daughter of Jennifer and Brian Garcia, won a raffle fundraiser prize for the St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce of being St. Lucie Schools’ Superintendent for the Day. At Fairlawn Elementary School, the kindergarten Gingerbread Man Hunt has become a beloved tradition, and this year’s event was one to remember. The day began with the shocking discovery that the gingerbread men had vanished from the cafeteria ovens. Routten Shines In Education

C.A. Moore Instructor Nardi Routten recently stood before the Florida Cabinet as a teacher of distinction so that Governor Rick Scott could recognize her with the Shine Award. This prestigious award is presented to teachers and administrators in Florida who make significant contributions to the field of education. Routten Recognized by Board

Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos announced that Chester A. Moore Elementary teacher Nardi Routten is one of five leaders from around the country who has been appointed to the National Assessment Governing Board.  Ms. Routten will serve a four-year term during which she will help set policy and assist in the identification of subject area content for the National Assessment of Educational Progress, also known as the Nation’s Report Card. The School Board and Superintendent recognized Mrs. Routten for her teaching excellence and for her prestigious appointment. Congratulations, Mrs. Routten!

ROTC Raiders Represent PSLHS at State Meet

Congratulations to 1st Sargent Pollino and the PSLHS Raider Cadets on a job well done! Out of the 86 schools represented, Port St. Lucie High School finished 4th, missing 3rd place by a couple of seconds. Nonetheless, they gave it their all and we are so very proud of their accomplishments. Way to go Jags!
