Students from Weatherbee, St. Lucie Elementary, White City, and Chester A. Moore explore force and motion as well as reflection and refraction at the Saturday With a Scientist program led by Erin Squires and Kyle Cobb. This program takes place at Indian River State College with groups of fifth graders from across all schools and is organized by the Office of Teaching and Learning’s Paul Reif.
This was an eventful experience with students from St. Lucie Public Schools. Students had the opportunity of meeting with noteworthy scientists who dedicated their time to meet on a Saturday. The day was filled with a planetarium view of fabulous planets, stars, the moon, constellations, and the sun. Students also had an opportunity of extracting DNA from a strawberry, and exploring fossils. The student highlight was the robotics presentation. Students had hands-on experience with the robot and learned about the components and creation of the robot’s movement. It was mathematical as well as scientific. On April 27th and May 4th, fifth-grade students from various elementary schools in St. Lucie County had an exciting opportunity to participate in the Saturday with a Scientist event hosted by Indian River State College. Let’s take a quick look at what they experienced. Planetarium Exploration: The students gathered at the planetarium, where they learned about the vastness of our universe, constellations, and the wonders of space. DNA Extraction Adventure: In smaller groups, the students got hands-on with DNA extraction from strawberries. Village Green Elementary School’s PBIS Committee hosted a “Pancakes with Santa” breakfast for students and their families. Our Village Green community was able to spend a morning with Santa and his special elf while enjoying a delicious breakfast and fun Christmas crafts. It was a magical and festive morning!
Santa arrives at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition by fire truck for the annual “Breakfast with Santa” event. Students are there to greet him when he arrives and to show him where to go for the breakfast, crafts and pictures. This is a wonderful event for the families each year and this year was no exception. The food was delicious, the crafts were fun, the face painting was awesome and the pictures with Santa were great!

Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies, student leaders who are members of the Pantry Club come together every other Friday to organize their school pantry and make weekend bags of non-perishable food items for families. The school pantry is sponsored by the Treasure Coast Food Bank.
