CPR Training for FPWA JROTC Cadets

At various points during the school year, Cadets from the JROTC Program have trained on how to administer treatment for various types of situations that require First Aid. This past week, they focused on CPR for both adults and small children. Students received classroom instruction for two days before moving into practical and scenario-based exercises, that served to build their confidence and proficiency in performing the potentially life-saving skill. Discovery Day at SOMS

  Discovery Day, hosted by IRSC, was an exciting day for our Southern Oaks Middle School students to explore the programs offered at their local high schools, as well as the programs offered at Indian River State College. IRSC showcased their current trade programs and dual enrollment opportunities. Inquisitive Owls Head to the Science Showcase!

Mosaic Digital Academy students in Mrs. Schwenger’s 4th-grade class and Mrs. Mimnaugh’s 5th-grade class worked collaboratively to investigate answers to scientific questions. Using the scientific method, students made predictions based on their hypotheses on the following topics: Hydroelectric Power; Mass, Force, and Motion; Sound Energy; Static Electricity; and Chemical Change. Senior Fest at Fort Pierce Central is more than a tradition, it is a rite of passage, a time-stand-still moment, and a freeing time to just be a Cobra with your fellow seniors! Makeda Brome Named Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year by the Florida Assistant Principals Association

The Florida Assistant Principals Association announced last Friday, March 31st, 2023, that Makeda Brome, Assistant Principal from Chester A. Moore Elementary School has been named the 2022-2023 Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year representing Florida.  She is one of 26 Assistant Principals from across the country to receive this prestigious recognition. FPC’s Makaria Sandlin Wins at the State Debate Championship

Makaria Sandlin brought home the 2nd place trophy in Saturday’s Florida Civics and Debate Initiative State Championship in Original Oratory. More than 50 middle and high schools competed in Orlando for this year’s State competition. LPA Cybersecurity Students get a Peak at IRSC Technology Programs

Mr. Mathison’s Cybersecurity classes had a wonderful trip today on our tour of IRSC. The students had fun exploring the robotics lab, and the programming that goes behind the robots. Then we checked out their IT lab and played the “Backdoors & Breaches” card game which simulates scenarios of IT pros vs hackers. Finally, we toured their manufacturing building to see the workshops, nanotech, and business labs. Students enjoyed the hands-on experiences during the field trip, which was paid for with the Cyber/IT Pathways Grant from the Florida Center for Cybersecurity.    

Jaguar Battalion Continues to Save Lives

On Wednesday, March 29th, the Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion conducted our final Blood Drive of the school year. With help from our Cadets, we were able to run the Blood Drive smoothly and efficiently. Thanks to our Cadets, members of One Blood as well as our teachers and staff here at Port Saint Lucie High School, we were able to collect enough blood to save over 200+ lives.

Oak Hammock K8 Osprey Band Attends Band Performance Assessment.

The Oak Hammock 8th Grade Osprey Band participated in the Florida Bandmaster’s Association Concert Band Music Performance Assessment. The 8th-grade students worked diligently to learn and perform Mount Vernon, Little Brazil Suite, and Little Rondo for Band. They received straight superior ratings on stage and a superior in sight reading, receiving an overall superior.  

FPWA Students Run Student Perks Coffee Cart

Today was the opening day of the Student Perks Coffee Cart and Fort Pierce Westwood Academy students in Ms. Cooper’s class got to be the first helpers! It is at the County Annex building on Virginia and 25th each Tuesday. Students from all the high schools rotate weeks to have the opportunity to learn skills for employment and customer service skills. They sell coffee, bagels, pastries, fruit, and tea. SLPS IT Earns Cybersecurity Service Technician Certificates

SLPS IT employees Antonio Vargas and Nile Gentry have both earned their certificate of completion for their apprenticeship training. The pair earned their Cybersecurity Service Technician certificates while working in one of the largest IT facilities at the St. Lucie Public Schools administration facility. Jaguars Reign Supreme at Drill State Qualifier

On Saturday, April 1st, the Port Saint Lucie High School JROTC Jaguar Battalion competed at the Area 3 State Qualifier at Jupiter Community High School to see what teams will qualify for the Florida State Drill Competition.  Our Jaguar Battalion Male and Female Teams managed to achieve 1st place in Male and Female Unarmed Platoon, 1st place in Male and Female Unarmed Squad, 1st place in Female Armed Platoon, 2nd place in Male Armed Platoon, 2nd place in Male and Female Armed Squad, 2nd place in Let 1 Squad, 3rd place in Female Color Guard, 1st place in Female Exhibition … Read More

Wax Museum at FPC

Fort Pierce Central High School concluded Black History Month with a first-ever interactive wax museum. Students, parents, and staff interacted with students from Mrs. Embrey’s Speech and Debate Club, Mrs. Nance, and Ms. Kelly. The wax exhibitors portrayed famous African American Freedom Figures, Abraham Lincoln, Chadwick Boseman, and many more. Exhibits “came to life” with a short presentation informing the audience about the person along with their achievements and interesting life events. The audience enjoyed the event and the presenters enjoyed showing their talents.    

LPA Key Club Swears in Officers

On March 22, 2023, the Lincoln Park Academy Key Club conducted the swearing-in ceremony of officers. Elections were conducted at the February meeting, and the results were then announced. Faith Mobley will hold the position of President, Nachbi Pierre is Vice President, Megan Pinto is Secretary, and Jeno Retutal is Treasurer. Their term of office will continue through May 2024. Ms. Michelle Franklin, the St. Lucie County Property Appraiser, conducted the ceremony with the officers reciting the oath of office. Our Junior Family Night was a huge success! We partnered with the Boys & Girls Club to support our students as they head toward meeting their goal of graduation! Our Panther Bistro hosted a delicious spaghetti dinner!

Orlando Science Center Visits Lakewood Park

On March 23rd, Orlando Science Center visited Lakewood Park Elementary. During the day, 4th and 5th grade students learned about potential and kinetic energy with real-life angry birds, explored the scientific method with mealworms, used coding to operate robots, and experimented with flying drones. In the evening, parents and students experienced 15 different STEM stations. From plants, to airplanes, to fractions, families had a blast!

FPC Young Floridian Candidates

Fort Pierce Central High School has a long and rich tradition of participating in the Young Floridian Scholarship program. This year is no exception. Brave Cobra students successfully submitted applications and mastered their individual interviews with three judges!
