40th Annual MLK Jr. Parade “Dream, Believe, Achieve” A very warm and heartfelt thank you to Mr. Schwerer and Mrs. Kelly for organizing Central’s MLK float! Dan McCarty Water Tower Contest

Dan McCarty Middle School teamed up with the City of Port St. Lucie Water Department to provide our AVID students with an exciting event. Students were able to test out their semester-long water tower projects by competing for $2000 in prizes. Each water tower had to be created within weight, height, and budget restrictions and were tested to withstand water intake and flow back out. It was amazing to see our future engineers at work. Thank you, Pierre, Louiza, and the rest of the Water Department team, for helping to make this such a special day for our sixth-graders!

The Annual Duncan Awards Held at Southern Oaks Middle School

The Duncan Awards are held annually in room 617 at Southern Oaks Middle School. The awards were created by sixth-grade math teacher, Mr. Lioba Duncan. Mr. Duncan gives the awards at the end of semester one to acknowledge high achievement and vast improvement on district tests. Hands on Math at Morningside

Students in Mrs. Eibl’s second-grade class demonstrate their critical thinking skills while participating in hands-on math experiences during math stations. Students were observed using bills and coins as they counted, added, and exchanged dollars and coins to solve real-life math tasks.  There is always quality, rigorous work happening at Morningside!☀️

Champion School Leads the Way

As the first gold status school on the Treasure Coast and a champion of the Everglades, Morningside Elementary was proud to host this learning opportunity for teachers around St. Lucie County. The teachers participated in some of the activities designed for students in K-5 classrooms. They created posters of endangered Everglades animals, created a 3D representation of the watershed system, raced to match the animals with the habitats they are found in, and spent the morning learning about this essential part of our ecosystem.

LPA Orchestra Students Perform at All State High School Honors Orchestra

Giselle Arana Cisneros, grade 10 –violin Lincoln Park Academy, performed with the Florida Orchestra All-State High School Honors Orchestra, and Christine Gergely, grade 8–viola, performed with the All-State Middle School Orchestra in Tampa during the 2024 Florida Music Education Association Professional Development Conference.  Both students are members of the Orchestras at Lincoln Park Academy, under the direction of Ms. Laura Hopkins.

Powerful Play in Kindergarten

Morningside teachers know that play is powerful! Students in kindergarten are enhancing their oral language development and vocabulary with Play with Purpose (PWP). Students read books and take on roles to enrich their play. PWP gives students a chance to model eye contact when speaking and listening, use correct language skills, explore other people’s viewpoints, and disagree in a positive way.

SLW Centennial Navy JROTC Participates in Toys for Tots

The SLW Centennial High School’s Navy JROTC Navy Eagles “Black Talon” Company volunteered to participate in the Port St. Lucie’s Toys for Tots program.  The “Black Talon” Cadets volunteered to work on December 16th, 17th, 19th, and 20th, 2023, to assist the Toys for Tots program in providing gifts for underprivileged children in the Port Saint Lucie area.  Hopefully they will allow them to have a holiday to remember.  Families that need assistance to provide toys and gifts for their children can reach out to the Toys for Tots program if they need a little help during the holiday season. … Read More

Village Green Scientists

Fifth-graders at Village Green were engaged in researching matters that matter in MATTER. During this lab research/investigation led by fifth-grade teachers, Dr. Thomas and Dr. Venzen, students learned and had hands-on experience with the method of water displacement, using and understanding how to read a thermometer, along with making hypotheses and predictions. Port St. Lucie Culinary Arts Cooks Jamaica-Me-Crazy

Culinary Arts students in Chef Roland Foerster’s classes cook and serve tasty Jamaica-Me-Crazy lunches. Students learned Jamaican cuisine recipes and cooked up entrée choices such as Stewed Oxtail, Curry Goat, Jerk Chicken, Jerk Pulled Pork served with Pigeon Peas, Butterbeans, Rice, and Johnnycakes. Delicious!

Measuring Up in Math

Students work cooperatively to apply real-life math skills during math class. Third-grade AMP students in Mrs. Moore’s class at Morningside Elementary used a measuring cup to create a healthy and tasty treat which was a great reward for their learning. Students were completely engaged and committed to working together to accurately read their measuring cups.

Jaguar Battalion Participates in MLK Parade

On Saturday, January 15th, 2024, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion participated in the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade. The purpose of this parade was to showcase the importance of MLK and his accomplishments. Nearly 150 cadets attended and marched at the MLK parade for 2 miles. The color guard presented the colors, cadets marched with the battalion colors, and marched with the state flags. Overall, it was a successful parade for our Jaguar Battalion.

4H Farm at Bayshore

Buggy Boo from 4H farm came to educate First Grade about the body parts of an insect, comparisons of correct names of body parts, and ask and answer question about key details in a text read aloud! Thank you Ms. Underwood.

Holiday celebrations come in many forms and are shared through many treasured traditions. The Fort Pierce Central High School Family has made celebrating together a time-honored touchpoint in our school year. The capstone event is the Poinsettia Luncheon catered by the Cobra Culinary department. Mrs. Donnelly dips her fruit skewer into the lusciously flowing chocolate fountain. Softly lit candles on crisp linens with fresh pressed and folded napkins, along with perfectly placed silverware awaited each staff member. SLW Centennial NAVY JROTC Participates in NJROTC Area 7 “Florida” Air Rifle Championships

The SLW Centennial High School’s Navy JROTC visited Central High School in Brooksville, Florida to participate in the NJROTC Area 7 “Florida” Air Rifle State Championships on Saturday, December 2nd, 2023. The Air Rifle Championships are open to participating NJROTC programs that have an active Marksmanship Program.  The participants shoot at targets that are 33 feet or 10 meters away.  They submit targets for the three positions that they shot in.  Those positions are Prone (laying down), Standing, and Kneeling.
