William Armstead Speaks to Centennial Students

Students at SLW Centennial High School Freshman Academy were treated to an assembly sponsored by School Board Member Dr. Donna Mills. Wilke and Luckey Honored for School Leadership

Congratulations to Principal Traci Wilke and Assistant Principal Marcy Luckey! Both are outstanding administrators recognized for their strong leadership. Wildlife Warriors: Morningside Elementary Students for Everglades Animals

We are extremely proud of these Amazing Blue Jays! Our 4th graders completed their first Everglades lesson of the school year with a big project about the Everglades animals that need our help. Wildlife Biology Bootcamp

St. Lucie Public Schools students started their summer learning as they took part in the Oxbow Eco-Center’s “Wildlife Biology Bootcamp.” Students had the opportunity to learn what it takes to be a real scientist by joining in field studies alongside local biologists. Students experienced what science looks like out in nature as they explored the wildlife awaiting them in the preserve. The Oxbow Eco-Center is hosting weekly bootcamps throughout the summer ranging from Ecosystem Exploration to the Art of Puppetry.

Wildlife Around Us at West Gate K-8

Fourth grade students at West Gate K-8 participated in the presentation “Wildlife Around Us”.  This program allowed them to meet an owl, hawk, baby alligator, and snakes.  The students learned about the need for habitat protection and how to co-exist with native wildlife.  

Wilderness Club at Rivers Edge

The Wilderness Club, led by Mrs. Slappey, had its first hike of the season and it did not disappoint! The new crew got to hike the preserve and grounds surrounding along the preserve at Rivers Edge and got to observe ground doves, a pileated woodpecker, and even spotted two black racers!  They also had the chance to identify animal scat, analyze game trails, and learn their secret pack call. It was an epic hike, and they cannot wait for more adventures ahead!

Wildcats Move Toward New Heights!

VPK Wildcats in Ms. Buescher’s class have worked hard all year! Students have learned letters, sounds, beginning reading strategies, numbers, addition and subtraction, science, social skills and more! We are so proud to move you up to Kindergarten next year! Congratulations to the VPK class of 2016!

Wildcats Celebrate100 Days of School

The students in Mrs. Irby’s Kindergarten class celebrated the 100th day of school with fun 100th day activities. Students counted ten groups of ten pictures and glued them on strips to make hats, created eye glasses with 100 pieces, read 100th day books, sorted 100 words, and participated in many other activities!

Wildcats are Authors

Students at White City Elementary wrote and published their own books for Young Authors. Every student started with an idea, narrowed the focus and wrote a story. After editing and revising their work, the students published their work, including illustrations, in a Bare Book. Four students’ books were chosen as representatives from each grade level. Pictured are the 24 representatives with their certificates and medals.

James Tobin, the incredible Art teacher at White City Elementary School, has been selected to participate in the prestigious Art21 Educators Program. This yearlong intensive professional development experience brings together passionate educators from around the world to explore the transformative power of contemporary art in education. White City Elementary Students Take on the Gladiator Challenge! White City Elementary recently celebrated student success with an exciting Gladiator Challenge! This PBiS event was designed to reward students who consistently demonstrated the school’s ROAR expectations— being Respectful to Others, Always Responsible & Safe. Students earned Dojo points throughout the month for positive behavior and were invited to participate in this high-energy challenge as recognition for their efforts. White City Wildcats Raise Money for March of Dimes

Students in all grades at WCE chipped in their quarters, nickels, dimes, and pennies to help the charitable organization (The March of Dimes). The March of Dimes uses funds collected to fund research to help prevent premature births. We are so proud of all who contributed!

White City Wildcats are Roaring Readers!

White City Wildcats are roaring readers! They took on the Action 100 program with amazing ambition and the results show their success. Students read at least one hour every school day and 30 minutes on non school days. The program was completed with the fidelity of steps being recorded daily and ongoing conferencing throughout the year. Congratulations to all!

At White City Elementary, the passionate Resource Team is inspiring students to take ownership of their learning and behavior through our monthly Pick Your Own Resource PBIS events—a highlight of the positive school culture. Led by the imaginative Mr. Tobin (Art), with enthusiastic support from Mr. Jones (PE), Mr. Smith (Music), and Mr. DeLeon (Media), these events recognize students who consistently demonstrate motivation, responsibility, and kindness. White City Students Explore Science

Students in Mr. Lewis’s class were building  circuits.  They were given batteries, copper wire and a light bulb and had to figure out how to use the materials to make a connection. Also, students were experimenting using M&M’s with the question “would all of the colors merge or separate”?

On Friday February 25, 2016,  White City Elementary recognized students for the character trait of the month: Perseverance.  When you persevere, you continue trying to do your best even though something is difficult.
