Northport Deans Georgia Stone and Billy Hicks recently stepped into Susan Matteson’s eighth grade class and presented a solid lesson pertaining to personal security. The lesson was a group project where students were given information from the American Security Council Foundation website about personal security and the UN Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Each group was given an article to read. Students then created a word cloud about the main idea of their topic and the important words about each topic. Anthony Knighton, a graduate of Fort Pierce Central High School is currently attending Southern Illinois University (SIU) where he was named as a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award.  Weighing in at 246 and clearing six feet by two inches, this defensive end from Fort Pierce, Florida set SIU freshman records and led all MVFC freshmen in sacks (6.5) and tackles for loss (11.0) this season. The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion showed their pride at the annual Martin Luther King, Junior Day Parade in Fort Pierce.  Marching in this parade is a tremendous honor and privilege for Port St. Lucie High. Northport seventh graders are working diligently on their very meaningful Project Citizen collaborations.  Students are following the criteria for the projects by identifying a problem, gathering information, examining alternative policies, proposing and developing their own public policy and then developing an action plan.  Northstar instructor  Thomas McDonald and Elizabeth Montilla, the critical thinking  teacher, are collaborating to make sure that efficacy is evident in the very important projects. The American Security Council Foundation flew essay contest winners Jayden Diago from Northport K-8 School in Port Saint Lucie, FL and Alex McGuigan from Storm Grove Middle School in Vero Beach, FL on an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C in December. All enjoyed and learned about national monuments and our nation’s capital. Visitors enjoyed the Capitol Building, visited the White House, the National Archives, and the Museum of Natural History. Southport Middle School is Running Full STEAM Ahead! Southport Middle School presented an amazing night of events on December 19th across the school campus for our students and families. The South Florida Science Museum from West Palm Beach hosted a STEAM event with 20 interactive high-tech activities including a 3D Printer, Virtual Reality Headsets, Lego Mindstorm activities, Robots, Roller Coasters, Legos and more!  Student volunteers from St. Lucie West Centennial High School and Southport staff assisted with the activities and students were thrilled with the exciting learning experience! PSLPD came to read holiday stories to first graders for their holiday tea on December 20th. Students enjoyed cookies, juice and a question/answer session with some police officers.

Students in Centennial’s Medical Academy participated in HOSA’s toy drive this holiday season.  They are making Christmas bright for children on the Treasure Coast and Okeechobee.  The HOSA students collected over 175 gifts for the children.    

During the months of November and December, HOSA invited the faculty, staff, and students of SLWCHS to participate in a toy drive for the children on the caseload of Devereux Community Based Care of Okeechobee and the Treasure Coast.  These children are in protective custody due to unfortunate circumstances in their own homes.  They are often placed with foster families or relatives during this difficult time.   Eagle faculty, staff and students banded together and collected more than 175 gifts for these special children.  Members of our HOSA chapter and Allied Health classes helped load Devereux’s ‘sleigh’ last week.  Merry … Read More

Four students from St. Lucie West Centennial High School were invited to join students from Broward County Public Schools to participate in an instructional camp at MarineLab in Key Largo, FL in November. The students, who are identified as deaf or hard of hearing, had the opportunity to engage in marine science activities and perform experiments with the help of educational interpreters. When writing about their experiences, student comments included, “I was so excited because everyone was signing” and “I will never forget it; it was wonderful!” It was truly a valuable educational and social opportunity for all the students … Read More

White City Elementary students enjoyed a special performance.  The Jazz Ensemble of Florida Baptist College visited White City Elementary and played some familiar, uplifting songs.  Students enjoyed the selections and they enhanced their understanding of various instruments and rhythms.  

White City Elementary families participated in Student Led Conference Night.  Students shared their learning goals, assessment data, and their action plan with their parents.  Parents received specific information regarding their students’ academic performance.

Congratulations to Treasure Coast High School Senior Gustavo Delgado on his early admission to the University of Chicago.  In addition to gaining early admission to the prestigious university, he was also awarded a full four-year scholarship covering tuition, room and board and other expenses.  University of Chicago is ranked number three in National Universities by US News and World Report in 2018.
