Manatee K8 Hosts Custodial Appreciation Luncheon

On October 16th, Manatee K8 was host to a luncheon for District custodial employees for Custodial Appreciation Day. A great time was had by all who attended. Events like these not only recognize the incredible work of our custodians but also foster a sense of belonging and appreciation within our school community. MSAP Magnet Schools Open Enrollment

Referendum Renewal

An important Referendum Renewal is on the November ballot.  It provides a school resource officer on every campus to ensure our children’s safety, supports the recruitment and retention of high-quality teachers, expands mental health services for students and supports special programs such as art and music in our schools.   Early voting begins October 24th and runs through November 5th.  Election Day is November 8th.   For more information, please visit Referendum Information – St Lucie Public Schools.

SLPS Launches Summer Feeding Program

Starting June 13th, SLPS is hosting a Summer Feeding Program, offering FREE food for children and teens, ages 2-18. All schools in St. Lucie County are open feeding sites for the community and students can go to any school for meals. Students that are not enrolled for summer school or camp must sign-in at the front office prior to receiving a meal. The Career Connect conference was held at the MidFlorida Credit Union Event Center. This event focused on high school seniors for planning and exploring various career pathways. There were representatives from both industry and post-secondary institutions from skilled trades, professional and financial services, hospitality, art and technology, design, healthcare, and manufacturing industry sectors. The conference included sector exhibitors, vendors, guest speakers, keynote speaker, break out sessions, and hands-on demonstrations. SGAET Clouds in a Jar

Ms. Blackburn’s Science Resource classes have been studying the water cycle. At the end of the unit, they created clouds in a jar to see the cycle in action. Using hot water and ice cubes the creation of evaporation and precipitation was shown.  Then, hairspray was used to mimic dust particles for water droplets to attach to create the clouds. What an awesome STEM activity!

Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies 6th grade students in Miss G’s computer science class are raising self-awareness on how to prevent bullying in their school and community using the block-based programming language called Scratch. Students get to put their computational thinking and problem-solving skills to the test by using events, sequences, and parallel responses to code an interactive anti-bullying message (in the form of their choice – e.g., ad, story, meme, animation), highlighting how to thwart and stand up against bullying. SGAET 8th Graders “Think Win-Win”

Mr. Nicks’ 8th grade homeroom students were given a weekly STEM challenge: determine the number of balls in a large box. Students were given 5 minutes to plan their approach while keeping in mind the Leader in Me habit of “Think Win-Win”. The students were then given a 5 minute timer to execute their plan. The rules of the challenge stated that students must keep all the balls off the floor and that after the 5 minutes was up, all the balls must be in the box. PSLHS Raider Meet

The Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC hosted the Annual PSL Raider challenge on Saturday, October 9th. Ten schools throughout St. Lucie, Martin, Okeechobee, and Palm Beach counties competed. The Raider competition consisted of six events: a 2.5 mile run, 1 mile litter carry, HUMVEE push, fitness test with carrying sandbags, constructing and crossing a rope bridge, and tire flip. The Jaguar Battalion male and female teams placed 1st overall. Congrats to a job well done as they compete next week at South Fork High School.
