During Tuesday’s (9/8/15) School Board Meeting (also International Literacy Day), St. Lucie County’s Reading Council read a proclamation stating that each Wednesday during the 2015-2016 school year will be recognized as a day to promote a passion for literacy.
A Committee of school and community leaders brought forth a proclamation at the September 8 School Board Meeting — Dads Bring Your Child to School Day. St. Lucie Public Schools, along with other school districts in Florida, will recognize this initiative on September 30, 2015. St. Lucie sees this as a movement rather than a moment to promote involvement of dads and male care givers in the lives of their students.
STAR Awards St. Lucie Public Schools recognizes its team members for exceptional customer service each month. T his month’s recipients were: West Gate K – 8 Team (Jennifer Harris, Ron Noble, Dana Buehrig, Christopher Calvo, Natalie Collis, Sean McInerney, and Andrea Malin): With approximately 600 students being picked up daily, this team has implemented a safe and organized pan to ensure that all students get to their parents’ cars safely – rain or shine. Students in Mrs. Stacey Johnson’s second grade enrichment group at Frances K. Sweet Elementary school are learning about forces that shape our Earth. Students in Mrs. Patricia Jones third grade class at Frances K. Sweet worked as engineers on the second day of school. Their project was to create a name tag they could attach to their bodies visible to the teacher and their new classmates. The criteria included proper conventions of their name, visible from a distance, it would remain attached to them with out falling off, include at least one picture to represent themselves, and they must have used at least three colors. Gaines Academy was recognized by the American Reading Company for their 100 Book Challenge Reading program. Students reading levels increased on average 1.47 years during the 2014-15 school year. Believe in GAINS at Gaines!

Northport VPK-8 School on Floresta Drive in Port Saint Lucie welcomed back well over one thousand students on Monday, August 17. The morning was the culmination of a solid week of planning and preparation on the part of the administration, teachers and staff.
