St. Lucie Public Schools is honored to have been named as the recipient of this year’s United Way “Spirit of St. Lucie Community Impact Award.” This award is conferred annually on an organization that demonstrates outstanding contributions within St. Lucie County to one or more of the United Way core impact areas of focus that include Health, Education, and Income.
Thank you to ALL of our dads, stepdads, grandfathers, uncles, foster parents, and male role models for bringing your child to school at Lakewood Park Elementary. We had 138 male role models attend! Way to go Lakewood Park!!
Bank of America provided the St. Lucie Education Foundation with a $6,000 grant to be used toward programs that help at-risk students in grades 9-12 with an intervention and life skills grant. The Foundation has also applied for matching funds through the school district’s Education Foundation Matching Grant Funds Program. This means that together, Bank of America and the Foundation will provide $12,000 towards the goal of helping students develop life skills, improve test scores, raise GPAs, and improve student achievement. In recognition of the many contributions our families make to children, Weatherbee Elementary opened its doors to welcome grandparents, family members, and friends for our Kids at Hope Celebration on September 10th and 11th. Jahson Nelson and his special friend share lunch at Weatherbee’s Other Caring Adults Luncheon last week.

During Tuesday’s (9/8/15) School Board Meeting (also International Literacy Day), St. Lucie County’s Reading Council read a proclamation stating that each Wednesday during the 2015-2016 school year will be recognized as a day to promote a passion for literacy.
A Committee of school and community leaders brought forth a proclamation at the September 8 School Board Meeting — Dads Bring Your Child to School Day. St. Lucie Public Schools, along with other school districts in Florida, will recognize this initiative on September 30, 2015. St. Lucie sees this as a movement rather than a moment to promote involvement of dads and male care givers in the lives of their students.
STAR Awards St. Lucie Public Schools recognizes its team members for exceptional customer service each month. T his month’s recipients were: West Gate K – 8 Team (Jennifer Harris, Ron Noble, Dana Buehrig, Christopher Calvo, Natalie Collis, Sean McInerney, and Andrea Malin): With approximately 600 students being picked up daily, this team has implemented a safe and organized pan to ensure that all students get to their parents’ cars safely – rain or shine. Students in Mrs. Stacey Johnson’s second grade enrichment group at Frances K. Sweet Elementary school are learning about forces that shape our Earth. Students in Mrs. Patricia Jones third grade class at Frances K. Sweet worked as engineers on the second day of school. Their project was to create a name tag they could attach to their bodies visible to the teacher and their new classmates. The criteria included proper conventions of their name, visible from a distance, it would remain attached to them with out falling off, include at least one picture to represent themselves, and they must have used at least three colors. Gaines Academy was recognized by the American Reading Company for their 100 Book Challenge Reading program. Students reading levels increased on average 1.47 years during the 2014-15 school year. Believe in GAINS at Gaines!

Northport VPK-8 School on Floresta Drive in Port Saint Lucie welcomed back well over one thousand students on Monday, August 17. The morning was the culmination of a solid week of planning and preparation on the part of the administration, teachers and staff.
