St. Lucie Public Schools Superintendent E. Wayne Gent recently accepted a donation of 200 sackpacks containing essential school supplies from the Office Depot Business Solutions Division. The sackpacks will be distributed to deserving students within the school district. The donations were made as part of the Office Depot and Office Depot Foundation’s award-winning National Backpack Program, through which the company gives children important tools they need to succeed in school – and in life – every school year. At Tuesday evening’s Board Meeting, the Bluebird Education Foundation presented students with instruments to help them exercise their musical talents. The Foundation’s Program entitled “Donation of Musical Instruments Through Recycling In The Key of E” makes this gifting of instruments possible.

The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion opened the annual senior pinning ceremony for the class of 2016 at the Port Saint Lucie Civic Center. Cadet Command Sergeant Major Jamie Triplett led the Color Guard presenting the national flag, Cadet Captain Savannah Cymbal presented the state flag, and standing as the guards were Cadet Major Julian Taft and Cadet Captain Kaylee Zuidema. The Color Guard gave a great presentation of the colors to begin the ceremony. Congratulations to all the senior Jaguars of 2016 who were pinned at the ceremony.
Transportation Department supports Breast Cancer Awareness
Members of the Transportation Team showed their united support for Breast Cancer Awareness.
The fourth annual Giving Concert is planned for October 28th at Fort Pierce Central High School in the auditorium located at 4101 S. 25th Street in Fort Pierce. The doors will open to the general public at 6:30 p.m. and the concert boasting area choral groups will begin at 7:00 p.m. The event, sponsored by St. Lucie Public Schools and organized by choral director, Dr. Rolanda Jones, will benefit Grace Packs which is a weekly weekend backpack program that provides necessary food items to students in need. St. Lucie Public Schools is honored to have been named as the recipient of this year’s United Way “Spirit of St. Lucie Community Impact Award.” This award is conferred annually on an organization that demonstrates outstanding contributions within St. Lucie County to one or more of the United Way core impact areas of focus that include Health, Education, and Income.

Bank of America provided the St. Lucie Education Foundation with a $6,000 grant to be used toward programs that help at-risk students in grades 9-12 with an intervention and life skills grant. The Foundation has also applied for matching funds through the school district’s Education Foundation Matching Grant Funds Program. This means that together, Bank of America and the Foundation will provide $12,000 towards the goal of helping students develop life skills, improve test scores, raise GPAs, and improve student achievement.
