St. Lucie Public Schools will host a job fair for teachers and paraprofessionals on December 1st in the gymnasium of St. Lucie West K-8 from 10:00 am – 12:30 pm. Amazing staff, talented students, and a school district making unprecedented gains — a winning combination.
On October 25, 2018, roughly 280 SLPS seniors from across the entire district attended State of the Jobs conference (SOJC). Students learned about various aspects of Skilled Trades, Manufacturing and Healthcare. The three career fields were identified in the Skills Gap Analysis as critical areas in need of workers. Students learned about each career path and were provided first-hand information within each pathway. Students engaged with vendors on career opportunities and learned about post-secondary education options. The St. Lucie Public Schools Transportation fleet was utilized to highlight features on buses contributing to the safe transportation of students. “School buses are known to be the safest method of transporting kids to school—70 times safer than traveling by car. Since 1989, National Young Readers Week has been an annual event held during the second week of November to raise awareness around the importance of reading. Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and SLPS partnered to provide training for employees in the nationally recognized program — Stop the Bleed. Participants were afforded an opportunity for hands-on experiences in how to perform life-saving measures in critical situations.
Each year, the Florida Council for the Social Studies honors educators across the state at their annual conference. Joe Curatolo (Treasure Coast High School), Heather Prince (Palm Pointe Educational Research School at Tradition), and Jacqueline Baptiste-Harris (Village Green Environmental Studies School) were recognized at the 61st annual conference as the Outstanding Social Studies Teachers of the Year for St. Lucie County. Administrators across the district nominated teachers from their schools to be considered for this honor. Leadership and drive to bring quality lessons were qualities shared of these educators, and all are well deserving of this recognition.
The 2018 Giving Concert served a two-fold purpose. Middle and high school choral groups from across the District provided the gift of music for audience members while audience members, in turn, donated food items to GracePacks for the organization’s weekend food program.
