The Lions Club Donates to Mariposa Elementary

Mariposa Elementary 2nd grade students received the generous donation of free dictionaries from The Lions Club. The students love their dictionaries, and they are putting them to good use. Thank you for such a useful and appreciated donation.       

Mariposa Elementary’s Brandon Roth Receives the Citizen Hero Award

Mariposa Elementary’s Fifth Grader, Brandon Roth, took action to help another during difficult times, and he was recognized for his actions by the St. Lucie County Fire District with a Citizen Hero Award. Brandon Roth was riding his hoverboard to a friend’s home in Port St. Lucie to play when he noticed a woman was on the ground lying unconscious by her front door.  He investigated and saw that she was in real trouble.  He flagged down a passing car and told them what he saw and asked them to call 911.  They did and Brandon waited by the woman until … Read More

Mariposa Elementary Celebrates Storybook Character Day

Mariposa Elementary celebrated Storybook Character Day. It was a huge success and culminated with a character parade featuring Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, First, Second, and Third grades. Many of our teachers and staff participated as superheroes including our very own Principal R. Craig Logue and Assistant Principal Angela Patton. Pictured Above: R. Perfect Score on the FSA at Mariposa Elementary

At Mariposa Elementary, fourth grader Jesse Hindman received a perfect score on his third grade math FSA and received a certificate from the Governor for his hard work! Mariposa Elementary’s First Graders Explore Math

At Mariposa Elementary, Mrs. Linda Auciello’s 1st grade students Olivia Watson, Joseph Rivera, Houston Bidot-Lascala, Kierstin Maggard and Brayden Myers are creating 3-D shapes using Play-doh and toothpicks. Math centers are practiced to ensure students stay engaged and gain a variety of different learning opportunities within their classroom.

Local Chiropractor Donates Supplies to Mariposa Elementary

Dr. Ravi Jitta from Tradition Family Chiropractic offered free consultations to any patient who brought school supplies to his office as donations. Dr. Jitta donated all the supplies he received to Mariposa Elementary — a generous contribution that is greatly appreciated!

Mariposa Elementary’s PreKindergarten Explores the Importance of Paper

In Mrs. C. Bonilla’s PreKindergarten class at Mariposa Elementary, the students discussed many different kinds of paper. This included where paper comes from and what different things we can create with it. The students practiced writing, drawing, cutting, and gluing the paper. Madison Barr wrote, ” Paper comes from trees.” She drew trees to illustrate her sentence. She practiced copying, starting with a capital letter, and left appropriate spaces between the words. Mariposa Elementary’s First Graders Write to Penpals in Texas

At Mariposa Elementary, Ms. K. Swanson’s 1st grade homeroom is on a pen pal escapade writing and illustrating creative masterpieces with Mrs. Whitfield’s 1st grade class located in Lytle, Texas.  The writing adventure began in early October and will continue until the end of May.   The students are grouped into pairs and enjoy the process of sharing fun information, asking questions that necessitate a direct response and learning fun facts about the state of Texas.  The class is looking forward to “meeting” their pen pals live through skype in the weeks to come. Mariposa Elementary Fifth Graders Study Native Americans

Students in Mrs. Saunders’ 5th grade present Native American Projects.  Fifth graders enjoyed presenting Native American projects. Mariposa Elementary’s Student Council

Mariposa Elementary Student Council, led by Mrs. Alice Gale-Wharton, passed on the usual bi-monthly meeting to kick-off the season with a luncheon and craft project.  Dipping pinecones into peanut butter and birdseed, everyone enjoyed creating an environmentally safe gift to keep or give and share with our feathered Florida wildlife. Mariposa Elementary PBIS Unity Garden

Mariposa Elementary celebrated their PBIS by creating a Unity Friendship Rock Garden. Florida Falls in Fort Pierce was very generous in donating over 700 rocks. Each student was able to design their own rock to represent friendship, unity, anti-bullying, caring words, and respect. Once the rocks were complete, they were placed in a “garden” for all students and staff to enjoy. The rock garden sends a strong message of positivity for all. First Graders at Mariposa Elementary Discover 3D Shapes

Students in Mrs. Auciello’s first grade class at Mariposa Elementary used Play-Doh and toothpicks to create a 3-dimensional cube! The students figured out that they needed 6 Play-Doh vertices and 12 toothpick edges. Pictured are Andrew Newhouse, Jaxson Plantier, Malia Johnson, Jaistyn Thurston, and Madelyn Farrell. Mariposa Elementary Enjoys Barnes and Noble Reading Night

Mariposa’s reading night at Barnes and Noble was a huge success. Mrs. Brie Lamb read Tacky the Penguin to the students and Mr. R. Craig Logue also read a story. Anthony and Angel Castro are seen decorating and enjoying their cookies while Joandre Sanchez and Leonel Ineus shopped with their parents. We will have our next Barnes and Noble night Wednesday, December 6. Please plan to come for the fun.

Mariposa Elementary Teamwork After Hurricane Irma

The employees of Mariposa Elementary are not just coworkers; they also pull together as family. When Hurricane Irma came through Port Saint Lucie and left Mariposa Elementary with debris to clean up, everyone knew it would take many hands to clean our school. After the storm, Mr. R. Craig Logue, Mrs. Brie Lamb, faculty, and staff pulled together and cleaned Mariposa’s school grounds from the debris which Hurricane Irma left in its aftermath. It was a lot of hard work, but the result was beautiful.

Mariposa Elementary Showcases Math Scoot and Identity Boxes in Fourth Grade

Ms. Erica Morales’ fourth grade students at Mariposa Elementary have been enjoying partnering with one another to complete their Math Scoot center. The Math Scoot center encourages students to deepen their knowledge with place value. Evan Lamb is discussing his findings at the center with his partner. Also in Ms. Erica Morales’ class, students created Identity Boxes. Jeffrey Campion enjoyed creating his identity box which showcased how he feels he is as a person. The students were very excited to share their personalities and projects with their classmates.

Mariposa Elementary Fifth Graders Investigate

Students in Ms. Zoie Griffiths’ 5th grade class at Mariposa Elementary learn about controlled experiments. The students completed an investigation that tested how high a ball would bounce on four different surfaces. They learned about variables, the scientific process, and even included some math by finding the average height of the five trials. This will be the first of many experiments and investigations that the students will get to do in 5th grade.

Mariposa Elementary First Grade Parent Organizes Activity

Lisa Delatorre came up with a fun project for Mrs. Auciello’s 1st grade class! She brought the supplies for the students to create and use a drawing robot, or “doodle bot.” The students had a blast putting these together and watching the cool designs they could make! Mariposa’s Second Graders Study Antarctica

At Mariposa Elementary, Ms. Humphrey‘s second grade class recently created informational books on Antarctica and Emperor Penguins. The students created 3-dimensional penguins with baby chicks and a penguin rookery.
