SLW Centennial Students Win Black History Month Essay Contest

SLW Centennial Culinary Students Win at ProStart Competition in Orlando

St. Lucie West Centennial culinary students competed at the 22nd annual State ProStart competitions in Orlando. Senior Dorian Green was recognized as SLW Centennial’s top Culinary Arts student. Senior Kameil Miller placed 4th in State in the Edible centerpiece competition. St. Lucie West Centennial Students Earn Awards and Recognitions at Science Fair

Congratulations to the following Centennial Eagles who won Category Awards for their science fair projects. Jaylen Miller:  1st Place Category Award in Cellular/Molecular Biology & Biochemistry Isabel Gordon:   2nd Place Category Award in Earth and Environmental Science Sarah Stouky:   1st Place Category Award in Plant Sciences Nicholas DeMattei:   2nd Place Category Award in Plant Sciences. SLW Centennial Culinary Arts Academy Collaborates with Kyle G’s Restaurants

SLW Centennial High School Culinary Arts Academy was adopted by Kyle G’s restaurant group through the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association.  With this “adopt-a-class” program, local restaurateurs and restaurants are able to involve students in real-world field trips, internships, guest speaking, and more.  On Friday, October 28th, the students took a trip to see the workings of both front of the house and back of the house at Kyle G’s Oyster Bar in Saint Lucie West, Florida.  The students had a great time working their way through the restaurant and watching live demos in their open kitchen.

SLW Centennial Senior Advances to State Science Fair

Congratulations to Justine Grenier-Fillion for advancing to the State Science Fair. Justine is a senior at St. Lucie West Centennial High School and is taking both Anatomy and Physiology Honors and AP Biology. Justine’s project looked to identify genetically modified organisms in common corn-based foods such as tortilla chips, corn muffin mix, and even corn flour sold at the grocery store. In her experimental design process, Justine was able to learn about and perform polymerase chain reactions (PCR), gel electrophoresis, and how genes can be modified in organisms. SLW Centennial High School Nursing Assistant Students Collaborate with IRSC

SLW Centennial High School Nursing Assistant Students participated in the Indian River State College’s Health Science and Nursing Program tours and simulation day.  Students worked with the IRSC nursing students and faculty to get hands-on demonstrations and simulated learning.  Students rotated through various presentations to include skill lab training and learning, admission process, opportunities after high school graduation, financial aid, scholarship opportunities, and more.

SLW Centennial’s Unified Bowling Team Advances to State Competition

SLW Centennial’s Unified team is made up of 5 amazing athletes: Jason Chi Ho Zhang, Ryle Sacchi, Emmanuel Dolcine, Lesly Aparicio, and Brandie Gibbs. Each of these athletes gave it their all on October 13th and made their way to States. Congratulations to our Centennial Unified Bowling team for their advancement to States Bowlings on November 4th.

SLW Centennial AICE Marine Students Explore the Indian River Lagoon

Ms. Willems’ AICE Marine Science students participated in “A Day in the Life of the Indian River Lagoon,” an annual citizen science project where environmental partners, students, and teachers collaborate to simultaneously collect scientific data at sites along the 156 mile stretch of the lagoon. A great learning opportunity for the students.
