Congratulations to Justine Grenier-Fillion for advancing to the State Science Fair. Justine is a senior at St. Lucie West Centennial High School and is taking both Anatomy and Physiology Honors and AP Biology. Justine’s project looked to identify genetically modified organisms in common corn-based foods such as tortilla chips, corn muffin mix, and even corn flour sold at the grocery store. In her experimental design process, Justine was able to learn about and perform polymerase chain reactions (PCR), gel electrophoresis, and how genes can be modified in organisms. Justine is also a member of the competitive cheer team that recently went to state as well.
