Congratulations to Retired Lt. Colonel Saxton for being selected for a full scholarship to the Bob and Marion Wilson Teacher Institute from June 16-21 in Williamsburg, Virginia. This year, participants will learn more about “Evolving Perspectives on American Identity: Resistance, Revolution, and Reform (1607–1870).” The intensive Teacher Institute immerses participants in American history while staying in Williamsburg, the restored capital city of eighteenth-century Virginia. We commonly consider JROTC as an honorable, refined service organization. Did you know they volunteer with tech!?! At Fort Pierce Central, JROTC cadets collected and turned in 38 computers for repair. This task took visiting teachers and classrooms all over campus. After repairs were completed by Mr. Albritton FPC’s I.T. consultant, 28 devices have been returned to teachers. Thanks to Retired Lieutenant Colonel Saxton for his Cobra leadership.

On Wednesday, April 17th, the Student Government Association (SGA) transformed Fort Pierce Central’s courtyard into a Cultural Celebration! Cobra Nation embarked on an enriched journey filled with different cultures from around the World! Peru, Haiti, Panama, Ireland, Mexico, Canada, United Arab Emirates, South American countries, Asian countries, and more were represented with flags, artifacts, props, food, and music. Students sampled offerings from table to table and culture to culture using a passport sheet. Adjudicators evaluate works that exemplify the Award’s core values of originality, skill, emergence of personal voice, and artistic vision. Congratulations to Gretchen Whitman of Fort Pierce Central High School for her outstanding participation at the 2024 Incubate Debate Championship. She advanced to the semi-final round in the national debate. Getchen’s coach, Mrs. Wright, worked hard this season to coach her incredible students. 

On Monday, April 15th, Student Government Associations from Fort Pierce Central and Westwood High Schools were recognized at the City of Fort Pierce Commission Meeting with a special proclamation for Student Leadership Week. Students from both schools interacted with City Commissioners and met with the Mayor, Linda Hudson, as a special proclamation was enacted to recognize their work in government at the school level.

10 seniors represented Fort Pierce Central on Friday, April 5 as our Young Floridian Candidates. These students were nominated by faculty and staff earlier in October. On this day, they were interviewed for their chance to win the Young Floridian Scholarship. Since Fort Pierce Central’s inception in 1970, the Cobra has been synonymous with the school. The Cobra, chosen as the mascot by Central’s first class, truly represents Fort Pierce Central’s PRIDE. The school has endured plenty of changes in its history, like a variation in populace, rivaling newer schools, and even building a new campus. And yet, Central’s PRIDE has stood the test of time, represented by the Cobra! Mackenzie Dowdy is a cobra through and through! In January of this year, she was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma or soft tissue cancer. At 46, her bravery propelled her into treatment, future surgeries, and ongoing chemotherapy. In support of Ms. Dowdy, Cobra Nation came together at Duffy’s Sports Grill to raise funds toward her medical expenses. Thanks to Ms. Dowdy’s son (pictured above) who works at Duffy’s for championing this event honoring and supporting his mother. Mr. Gardner and Mr. Siminski join Ms. Dowdy. Well-wishes from colleagues, students, and Ms. Dowdy’s family!

Congratulations to Central’s Track and Field team on their victory with the Cobra Relay. The team placed first in the county. Our Cobras will be back at Lawnwood Stadium to celebrate their senior night and compete in the St. Lucie County Championship meet. Go Cobras!

The morning of March 9th saw a beautiful sunrise on the shoreline of downtown Fort Pierce’s weekly Farmer’s Market. This Saturday morning was different and special, and would have a huge positive impact on our community! The 16th annual Empty Bowls Project took place at the scene-stopping Fort Pierce waterfront. This yearly collaboration between St. Lucie Public Schools and the Treasure Coast Food Bank raises funds equivalent to 96,000 meals to support community members, friends, and families facing food insecurity in our four-county area. The FPC Competitive Theatre students traveled to the Florida State Thespian Festival held in Tampa. They competed against 300+ high schools from around the state, participated in workshops with Broadway and Theatre Professionals, and watched other high school performances in evenings. Of the four pieces performed by Cobra students, two received “Straight Superior” ratings, and the other two “Overall Excellent” ratings. We are so proud of our Thespian Cobras and Ms. Tiffany Gardner!

Congratulations to the Fort Pierce Central High School MLK Parade Float team who were honored with a trophy at the school board meeting for Overall Best! The hard work of Cobra Nation showed through the efforts of the float team, administration, club participation, athletics, and of course so many students and families! Cobra Nation is thrilled to be awarded Overall Best and will continue to honor the prestigious legacy of pride and dedication at Fort Pierce Central High School.  

Fort Pierce Central’s Cobra Jazz Band participated in the State Jazz Music Performance Assessment in DeLand. The Jazz Band received straight “superior” ratings! This is the highest possible rating a jazz band can receive within the state of Florida. This honor was especially significant as it was the first time Fort Pierce Central’s jazz program has earned a state superior rating in over 25 years! Cobra Nation is overjoyed with pride for all our performers and Mr. Daniels for their hard work, musicianship, and success!! Go Cobras!

At this year’s District Music Performance Assessment or MPA, both Fort Pierce Central groups got straight “superiors” ratings! Now, the choirs are state-bound to continue their great performance work. Congratulations to all of our multi-talented performers and Mr. Martinez!

Towards the end of the top-notch season, the Lady Cobra’s Champion Flag Football Team was invited to Tampa to meet the Buccaneers players and play a game on their home field. Coach Clements couldn’t be prouder of his team! From their dedication, hard work, and cohesive vision, the team members have made clear that while winning is always the goal, winning as a team means more to players. District Superintendent Dr. Jon R. Prince and School Board Member Mr. Troy Ingersoll visited the Cobras during a recent practice to congratulate them on their academic and athletic achievements throughout this memorable season. The Fort Pierce Central Boys’ Basketball Team won their first District Championship since 2011 by knocking off 3 straight higher ranked opponents on the road. Congratulations to Ms. Emily Royo and her artistic team of Cobras that created the Out-of-the-Box award winning school display at this year’s SLC Fair. This year, we lent our Purple and Gold to guard all the bright futures of SLC students.
