Treasure Coast High Advanced Manufacturing Students Learn Virtually

Treasure Coast High Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Instructor Mr. Depuy hosted a virtual session with Ms. April Badenhop from Advanced Machine and Tool.  Via Zoom, April covered topics in advanced technology machines, precision measuring, and designing turbine blades.  Big thanks to Mr. Jerry Jacques, Treasure Coast Manufacturers Association (TCMA) for helping to coordinate this virtual learning experience for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering students.  Wow, now that’s a great partnership!  Level Up!

Treasure Coast Manufacturing Advisory Board Meets Virtually

Treasure Coast High School Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Program’s Advisory Board met the Program’s instructor, Mr. Phil Depuy and Mrs. Aliesha Seitz, CTE Director.  Treasure Coast Manufacturers Association (TCMA) President Jerry Jacques and Economic Development Council (EDC) Vice President Jill Marasa virtually connected with Mr. Depuy, Ms. Seitz and toured the upgraded lab.  Many ideas were exchanged and sessions planned to connect students with members of the Advisory Board and local manufacturing community.   Big thanks to TCMA and EDC for their continued support!  Level up!  

Culinary Arts Teachers Host Virtual Field Trip to the Cake Lady

West Prep Veterinary Assisting Adds Classroom Critters

Fort Pierce Westwood Veterinary Assisting students apply hands-on lessons to care for the health and well-being of companion animals. Fort Pierce Westwood Veterinary Assisting Advisory Board

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy, the W.E.S.T. Prep Magnet’s Brittany Shoun along with Westwood Administration and District CTE Program Specialists met with local veterinarians and veterinary technicians to plan hands-on labs for the Westwood Vet Assisting students.  The Veterinary Assisting facility is revamping the surgical suite and laboratory areas. Westwood’s Agriscience Virtual Field Trip

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy, W.E.S.T. Prep’s Agriscience program hosted a virtual field trip for Samuel S. Gaines Academy, Forest Grove Middle and Allapattah Flats K8 schools. Students explored the Agriscience career pathway with out leaving their classroom.

St Lucie Students Connect To Their Future at IRSC Great Explorations

Close to four hundred St Lucie Public high school students attended Indian River State College Great Explorations held at IRSC main campus in Fort Pierce.  The annual event attracted juniors and seniors from every high school (Fort Pierce Westwood, Central, Lincoln Park, Mosaic, Port St Lucie, Performance Based, St Lucie West Centennial, and Treasure Coast) who spent the day planning for their future after high school. Each student chose their top career interests and visited four college programs matching those interests.       

Texas Road House Kitchen Krawl

St Lucie Culinary Arts instructors participated in the St Lucie West Kitchen Krawl hosted by Texas Roadhouse! Sarah Kirk, Store Marketer and Tanner Hedberg, Assistant Kitchen Manager welcomed the culinary instructors with open arms.  The Krawl focuses on partnerships to enhance job opportunities and enrich culinary classrooms with relevant industry needs.  Tanner hosted a detailed kitchen tour explaining “soup to nuts” and highlighting the entry-level kitchen positions. St. Lucie West Centennial High School’s Culinary Arts students catered and served a delicious lunch for the guests at the Criminal Justice Academy Completers celebration.  The celebration was hosted at the Keiser University campus at Tradition. Go Eagles!

St. Lucie Culinary Arts Students Show at Taste of St. Lucie

Culinary Arts students from Port St. Lucie High School, Northport K-8, and St. Lucie West Centennial High School hosted three booths at the annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Taste of St. Lucie fundraiser. Port St. Lucie High’s Jaguar Culinary Team sautéed and served Lucky 7 Wontons with Asian Slaw and Gator Loupgaroo with Boom-Boom Sauce. Delicious! St. Lucie West K-8 students served their homemade “Shark Bites” — a combination of dark chocolate cake, chocolate cream, dark chocolate, and whipped cream.  Yummy! Criminal Justice teachers in St Lucie Public Schools have so much to be proud of!  Students earn 911 Operator and Accredited Legal Professional Industry Certifications; participate in the St Lucie County Emergency Operations Center activities; attend a Teen Discourse session with the U.S. Federal Courthouse and Judges; and partner with Indian River State College Public Safety Programs, Keiser University Criminal Justice Programs, and the Public Defender’s Office of the 19th Judicial Circuit Court. Adobe Advisory Board Meets

The Adobe Advisory Board met April 3, 2019, focusing on St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) teachers whose students earn the Adobe Suite Industry Certifications in Flash/Animate, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign, PremierePro and Illustrator.  Career and Tech Ed (CTE) Program Specialists Keron Belgraves, Lei’Nitia Robinson, and Dana Caputo spearheaded this collaborative meeting by inviting Indian River State College representatives to present, including Dean Jim Jeffers, RCCPC Coordinator Strather Dupree, Enrollment Representative Rachel Bozzo, and Recruiter Cassandra Raya.  ‘Reaching students’ was the theme of the meeting. Port St. Lucie High’s Culinary Arts Serves Jamaica-Me-Crazy Lunch

Port St Lucie High’s Culinary Arts hosted their Jamaica-Me-Crazy Teacher Lunch in early April.  The students and Chef Roland Foerster prepared and served teachers a taste of Negril, The West End!  The recipes included “Irie” conch soup, ackee and saltfish (national dish of Jamaica), oxtail stew, curry goat, smoked chicken and pork basted with Jazzy’s own jerk seasoning and served with pigeon peas and rice, homemade fried plantains, and “Blue Drawers” sweet coconut and cornmeal cooked in banana leaf.  All meals were served with a smile and traditional “Johnnycakes.”  There were Jaguar smiles all around!

Allied Health Advisory Board Meeting

The Allied Health Advisory Board met in early April at Fort Pierce Central High School in Samantha Jackson’s Health Science classroom.  Lei’Nitia Robinson, Program Specialist for Career and Tech Ed (CTE), brought together Health Science teachers from across St. Lucie Public Schools and representatives from local partners including: ABC Medical, Keiser University Admissions Department, Keiser Sports Medicine and Nursing Programs, Indian River State College Nursing and Health Science Department, and Johnson and Wales University Admissions Department.  It was a great day of collaboration and partnership!

SLW Centennial High Competes at ProStart Culinary Competition

St Lucie West Centennial High Culinary Arts students had their moment to shine at the 19th Annual Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association’s Competition.  The pictures show the beautiful fruit carvings and culinary dishes Centennial’s Eagles prepared at the competition.  Chef Calvin Lewis and Chef Christina Gedke-Balachak were very proud of their talented Eagles!
