St. Lucie Public Schools Goes to UNF, FGCU, and FAU in October

The Office of Teaching and Learning is devoted to exposing SLPS students to college and university campuses. We took a group of seniors to the University of North Florida on October 7th, another group of seniors to Florida Gulf Coast University on October 13th, and our last group of seniors to Florida Atlantic University on October 29th. The students were able to listen to the Admissions Department from each university and discuss admission steps/requirements, as well as unique facts for each institution. At the 10th Annual Indian River Lagoon Science Festival, held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., students from Morningside Elementary proudly represented their school as Everglades Ambassadors and participants in the Need Project. These enthusiastic young learners hosted an engaging conservation booth, sharing their knowledge and passion for environmental stewardship with festival attendees. The Port St. Lucie High School Air Rifle team continues to dominate the virtual match circuit, securing their third consecutive victory against Olympic High School. With a score of 880, eight of those bullseyes, the team showcased precision, discipline, and consistency that reflect their dedication to excellence. Five outstanding high school culinary arts students competed at the Sunshine Kitchen Cookoff in Fort Pierce. Each high school student was paired with an Indian River State Culinary Institute student to form a team for the event. In Ms. Gagliano’s Kindergarten class at Weatherbee Elementary, math came to life through a fun game of musical chairs! Students are currently working on Unit 4 – Understanding Addition and Subtraction, with today’s focus on making connections to addition as “putting together” or “counting on” (NSO.3.1). As music played, students moved around the room, eagerly waiting for it to stop. Fort Pierce Central High School proudly celebrated over 400 students this past Wednesday for their outstanding learning gains on the ELA PM1 assessment. These gains, measured against last year’s PM3 performance, mark a significant step forward in academic growth and set a strong foundation for future success. In adaptive testing, PM1 plays a crucial role in shaping the difficulty of subsequent assessments.
