Weatherbee Sends Supplies To Haiti and Bahamas

The families, faculty, and staff of Weatherbee Elementary recently collected and filled over 100 shoeboxes with much needed health care supplies for our neighbors in hurricane stricken Haiti and Bahamas.  Mrs. Guermithe Ogé and Mrs. Darlene Sydné coordinated the collection drive.

Fourth Grade Student “Teachers” at Mariposa

Fourth graders in Ms. Erica Morales’ class at Mariposa Elementary enjoyed playing the role of the math teacher. “Ms. Owens, and Mr. Orozco” guided their fellow classmates in multiplying two digit by two digit numbers using the Matrix Model. Criminal Justice Students Participate in Teen Court

Recently at St. Lucie West Centennial High School, the 19th Judicial Circuit held Teen Court. Criminal Justice students from Fort Pierce Central, Fort Pierce Westwood, St. Lucie West Centennial, and Treasure Coast High Schools prepared and presented defense and prosecution cases. Students also served as jurors, bailiff, Clerk of the Court, and audience members for three cases involving teens.

Culinary Workshop

Fort Pierce Central culinary students and their instructors joined over 40 Florida high schools at the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association Educational Foundation (FRLAEF) Regional workshop at Johnson and Wales University (JWU)  in Miami, Florida. Students rotated through four sessions including: knife skills, trends in baking and pastry, Molecular Gastronomy, and trends in nutrition. Lunch was then served to everyone in the JWU cafe, and each student received a personal chef jacket for attending the event. An exciting and very educational day was had by all!

Weatherbee Admin Get Doused With Gravy

At Weatherbee, we recently celebrated the end of our latest Reading Challenge. Classes that met their reading points goal were treated to watching our principal and assistant principal get doused with gravy!! The students who earned the highest amount of points in each class did the honors of pouring a cup of gravy over our literary pilgrims – a.k.a. Mr. Hitsman and Ms. Avellino.

SLW Centennial Student Athletes Recognized for Academic Achievements

Olive Garden sponsored an event honoring student athletes at SLW Centennial High School.  Student athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and higher were recognized for their academic achievements.  The top two students who both have a 4.0 cumulative GPA include Cameron Pagan (pictured on left), 10th grade, Volleyball Team and Nalin Saraf (pictured on right), 10th grade, Cross Country Team .

FPCHS – The Art Space

This exhibit showcases the work of the Creative Photography students from Fort Pierce Central High School. The school added photography courses four years ago, and in that time Heather Blackmon-Gordon’s students have grown in both skill and scope. With photography as their commonality, they search for their own creative style and vision. The students have spent the last few months documenting, critiquing and reflecting on physical and mental places in their lives. PSLHS Jaguar Raider Team Dominates Area III

The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Raider Team traveled to South Fork High School to compete in the Area III Regional Raider Meet State qualifier. They competed against 22 teams from nine other schools in five physically demanding events. The events consisted of Cross Country Rescue (team had to answer questions on first aid, treat a simulated 120lb casualty with supplies from 30lb ruck sacks, and then move the casualty and supplies one mile to the safe zone), 100 meter 300lb tire flip. 5th Graders at FPMSA Present Pre-Columbian North American Projects

Students in Mrs. Saunders’ 5th grade at FPMSA researched, prepared, and presented projects on Pre-Columbian North Americans. Students created posters or dioramas to display the information they acquired. Classmates learned from each other and learned from the past. Realizing how landscape, climate, and resources shaped the customs and homes was evident in their work.

Pottorff – LPA’s 2A Cross County State Champion

On Saturday November 5th, Caleb Pottorff won the 2A Cross Country State Meet.  Caleb ran the fastest 5K of the 728 male and female runners who participated.  Congratulations to Caleb! Your Lincoln Park Academy family is very proud of you.

LPA Food Drive

Lincoln Park Academy’s Middle School Student Council is grateful to be assisting the effort to eliminate hunger within the community.  With the tremendous outpouring of effort from students and staff, LPA was able to donate    2 1/2 wagons of non-perishable food items to the Mustard Seed Ministry.        

Oath of Office

During the November 22nd Organizational Meeting of the School Board, School Board Attorney Daniel B. Harrell administered the Oath of Office to School Board Member Carol A. Hilson (residing in District No. 2) and School Board Member Kathryn Hensley (residing in District No. 4). Both were re-elected to four year terms and will continue to proudly serve the students, staff, and community of St. Lucie County.

SLPS Organizational Meeting

The School Board of St. Lucie County held an Organizational Meeting on November 22, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. in the School Board Room. During this meeting, Mr. Troy Ingersoll was elected Chairman and Dr. Donna Mills was elected Vice Chairman.

Northport Hosts Mr. Tony Barnes for Speakers Bureau Presentation!

It was the pleasure of the Northport administration, teachers, and staff to host our monthly Speakers Bureau in partnership with Dr. Donna Mills, SLPS School Board Member recently. Each month, Northport along with several other schools, hosts guest speakers who encourage and motivate students to pull themselves up by the boot straps, make good choices, use positive role models and learn to find their passion and purpose in life. Student-led Conferences at White City Elementary

All White City Elementary families were invited to participate in student-led conference night.  Students shared their academic goals, assignments, and discussed their overall progress with their families. White City Wildcats are held accountable for their own learning.

SGA Attitude of Gratitude Quilt

In the course of just one day, we can find many things to be thankful for…if we only take the time. The students and staff in Mrs. Hill’s ASD room at Samuel Gaines Academy have adopted and set aside the month of November to display an attitude of gratitude. To show their thankfulness, the students (under the artistic direction of Ms. Pattie Morse) created a wall of gratitude which is on display outside their classroom. The wall is adorned with “Give Thanks” wreaths and a hand-made patchwork quilt depicting what the students are thankful for.

FPW Cadet Unique Rosario Awarded Heroism Award

In a recent Medal of Heroism Ceremony hosted by Westwood High School Panther Battalion, Cadet First Sergeant Unique Rosario received the prestigious Medal of Heroism award. Unique leaped into a river after Hurricane Hermine to save a young boy who had fallen out of his family’s raft. She risked her life thinking only of that young boy and his safety. Unique Rosario is the epitome of heroism, and the Panther Battalion was proud to honor her with this award.

Morningside Elementary Title I Superhero Literacy Night

The Morningside Elementary Title I Superhero Literacy Night was a huge success! Students and families were encouraged to wear superhero costumes or shirts when they attended the fun-filled event. Families rotated through superhero stations that featured reading skills while integrating science, math, and writing.  The attendees also were treated to delicious pizza from Little Caesars and all students received a superhero-themed prize at the end of the event! 

Westwood JROTC JLAB Team

The Fort Pierce Westwood High School JROTC recently competed in the Academic JLAB competition. JLAB (Junior Leadership and Academic Bowl) is a program within JROTC sponsored by the College Options Foundation. Cadets have the opportunity to improve their ACT/SAT scores, increase interest in college admission, gain leadership skills, and advance hands-on learning. During the JLab competition, the team completed an academic test composed of three sections: verbal, math, and science. Lady Greyhounds Capture District Volleyball Title

On October 20th in the Lincoln Park Academy gymnasium, the Lady Greyhounds captured another volleyball district title against Clewiston High School.  This is the forth consecutive district title for for LPA.  Congratulations to the players and coaches!!
