Wednesday, October 21, 2015 was dedicated to everyone coming together—in schools, communities, and online — and send one large ORANGE message of support, hope, and unity to show that we are united against bullying and united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.

Palm Pointe Celebrates Florida Government Week

To help celebrate Florida City Government Week, Port St. Lucie Councilwoman Shannon Martin came to Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition to talk with students in the seventh grade. Councilwoman Martin talked with students about public policy and how the local government plays an important role in policies and legislation. Students also were able to ask the Councilwoman questions about their project topics for Project Citizen.  Pictured is Councilwoman Shannon Martin as she talks with the seventh grade students.

Northport Third Graders Commemorate Disability Awareness Month!

Northport VPK-8 School third grade students in Susan Poveromo’s class learned all about the life of Helen Keller recently in a heartfelt lesson in commemoration of Disability Awareness Month. Students read all about Helen Keller who lived her life in virtual darkness. They learned that Helen was born in 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama and that Helen was born a bright and lively baby but at nineteen months old contracted scarlet fever which left her blind, deaf, and unable to speak. Wounded Warrior Surf Day

The Port Saint Lucie High School JROTC cadets were excited to present the colors and be part of the Wounded Warrior Surf Day. Cadet First Sergeant Ryan McCarthy led the Color Guard presenting the national flag, Cadet Captain Savannah Cymbal presented the state flag, and standing as the guards were Cadet Staff Sergeant Travis Cetin and Cadet Major Catherine Zukowski. Jaguars Salute the Seniors

The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion opened the annual senior pinning ceremony for the class of 2016 at the Port Saint Lucie Civic Center. Cadet Command Sergeant Major Jamie Triplett led the Color Guard presenting the national flag, Cadet Captain Savannah Cymbal presented the state flag, and standing as the guards were Cadet Major Julian Taft and Cadet Captain Kaylee Zuidema. The Color Guard gave a great presentation of the colors to begin the ceremony. Congratulations to all the senior Jaguars of 2016 who were pinned at the ceremony.

Triangles Are A Lot of Fun at Mariposa Elementary

The students in Mrs. Kari McIntyre’s Kindergarten class at Mariposa Elementary are having fun learning all about triangles! Michael Soto, Zykeria Reynolds, and Kaarina Wiley are demonstrating their skills by creating a human triangle. One of the many activities the students participated in was using a string to create a triangle in their classroom. Also, they were able to describe the triangle by its attributes; they recited that “A triangle has three sides and three vertices!”

Mid-Florida Bank Supports Reading at REE!

Rivers Edge thanks Mid-Florida Bank for showing their support of the importance of reading. On Friday, October 23, representatives read to all of our Kindergarten classes and then gifted each student a book titled, No Sleep for the Sheep!

REE Proudly Puts on Pink!

Rivers Edge staff and students put on the pink for Wear It Pink day! Personalizing the day for Rivers Edge, it was decided that all donations would be given to our amazing principal, Mrs. Walukiewicz. We hope for any and all forms of this disease to be removed from our planet!

Southport Middle School 6th Grade Student Retreat

Southport’s 6th grade students enjoyed an engaging, positive, and busy day at our first annual Student Retreat. Students participated in several activities and games throughout the day, as well as small group discussions where they learned about each other’s likes and dislikes. In addition to writing motivational letters to themselves (which will be given back to them during the school year), they received Palanca letters, which are letters of encouragement from teachers, staff, and family members. Lighthouse Foundation Makes Donation to Westwood

State Representative Larry Lee along with Tom Jones from the SLC Education Foundation, Dr. David Washington, and Olivia Watkins stopped by Westwood High School to present the school with a check from the Lighthouse Foundation and other private donors. The Lighthouse Foundation, founded in SLC by Representative Lee, assists the children and senior citizens of our community. The very generous donation will support scholarships to cover the laptop fee for go to help pay the fee for laptop computers for 100 Westwood students. It is with notable pleasure that Northport VPK-8 School participated in the Superintendent’s Learning Lunch held on Tuesday, October 13 from 11:30 am- 12:30 pm at the SLC School Board District Offices.
