St. Lucie West Centennial High School Culinary Students Explore Career Opportunities

Students from the Culinary Arts Academy experienced a truly extraordinary day at Kyle G’s Oyster Bar in St. Lucie West, where education leapt off the page and into a real, functioning kitchen. Under the guidance of Chef Abner and his remarkable team, students were invited behind the line and given full creative freedom to craft any dish their imaginations could dream up. What emerged were plates that were not only impressive—but genuinely restaurant quality.
The hospitality and mentorship shown by Kyle G, Mr. Doug Poole, and Chef Abner transformed the visit into an unforgettable hands-on learning opportunity. Their willingness to open their kitchen, share their expertise, and encourage exploration left a lasting impact on every student who stepped through their doors.
The day ended with a moment that perfectly captured the power of experiential learning: one student’s dish so impressed the chef that she was invited to return the very next day to complete a job application. It was a proud, inspiring reminder of what passion, skill, and opportunity can create.
For the Culinary Arts Academy, this was more than a field trip—it was a spark. A day where students saw their futures not as distant dreams, but as something they could reach, taste, and confidently step toward.
