Student-Led Conferences: Empowering Learners at Parkway Elementary!
Parkway Elementary celebrated Student-Led Conferences, and what an incredible experience it was! Our students took center stage, confidently sharing their progress, goals, and achievements with families. These conferences weren’t just meetings—they were powerful moments of ownership and growth.
Students Owning Their Learning
Using clear learning targets and success criteria, students reflected on their strengths and areas for improvement. They showcased work samples, explained strategies, and set actionable goals for the next quarter. This process aligns with John Hattie’s Visible Learning research, which emphasizes that student self-assessment and goal setting have an effect size of 1.44—one of the highest impacts on achievement!
Data-Driven Conversations
Families engaged in meaningful discussions supported by:
- Progress Monitoring Data: Students shared reading levels, math fluency scores, and growth charts.
- Standards-Based Goals: Each student highlighted mastery levels and next steps aligned to Florida B.E.S.T. standards.
- Action Plans: Students outlined strategies to meet their goals, reinforcing accountability and confidence.
Why It Matters
When students lead the conversation, they become active participants in their learning journey. Research shows that when learners take ownership, motivation and achievement soar. At Parkway, we are proud to foster a culture where students thrive as leaders of their own success.
Thank you to our dedicated teachers and families for supporting this transformative experience. Together, we are building lifelong learners!
