Superintendent Yost visits Dan McCarty and encourages students

St. Lucie County Schools Superintendent Genelle Yost was special guest at Dan McCarty Schools’ January Student of the Month ceremony. Superintendent Yost delivered a very compelling message to the C.O.T.M. recipients, ecnouraging students to remain focused in their learning, set goals and work hard to accomplish them. In addition, Superintendent Yost challenged the students to go to college and earn doctoral degrees in any area of their choosing and perhaps even in education. Pictured are Superintendent Yost, left, and Assistant Principal Bennie Montenegro.

Superintendent Speaks to 8th Graders at SLWK-8

SLWK-8 School welcomed founding principal and current Superintendent E. Wayne Gent to their 8th Grade end-of-year awards ceremony on May 26th. Mr. Gardner, teachers, and staff appreciate Mr. Gent taking the time to speak to the students about their future and attending high school next year.

Superintendent Gent Shares Gift of Reading

Mrs. Patrick’s 2nd grade class was visited by Superintendent E. Wayne Gent! He read them a wonderful Christmas story entitled Christmas City by Michael Garland. The students thanked him with a present of their own — new socks! Mr. Gent promptly put them on and wore them with pride! Thank you, Mr. Gent, for a wonderful visit!  

Superintendent E. Wayne Gent: Sworn In As St. Lucie Public School’s New Superintendent of Schools

Superintendent E. Wayne Gent was sworn in as St. Lucie Public School’s new Superintendent of Schools on July 21, 2015, during the School Board meeting. The new superintendent values the support he has received from the community and appreciates this opportunity to serve. He will focus on teaching and learning as the core mission, leadership and talent development, safety with a culture and climate conducive to learning, and communication/customer service/community engagement.

Superintendent E. Wayne Gent Provides Update

Superintendent E. Wayne Gent provided an educational update during the Economic Development Council’s Investors’ Lunch Meeting. With a focus on the School District’s escalating graduation rates as well as career and technical opportunities, he stressed how the need is greater than ever for the next generation to be prepared to deal with the demands of a complex world and economic realities.

Students in Mrs. Bennett’s 3rd grade class at F.K. Sweet presented Superintendent E. Wayne Gent with a certificate. He enjoyed spending part of his morning reading to them as part of a Black History Month lesson activity.

Superintendent Dr. Prince Visits Students at Manatee Academy K8

The favorite part of Superintendent Dr. Prince’s week is when he visits schools! Last week, he stopped by Manatee Academy K8 and had the privilege of visiting both Kindergarten and 5th-grade classrooms.  The students were very excited to share with the Superintendent what they were learning and had the chance to ask him questions about his job.  Dr. Prince had the opportunity to participate in a circle time goal-setting activity with students!

Super Scientist Lab Day at Palm Pointe

The fifth grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition participated in a Super Scientist Lab Day.  Through seven different investigations, the students learned about chemical and physical changes.  Each of the fifth grade teachers conducted a different experiment showing either a chemical or physical change.  The teachers rotated through each of the seven fifth grade classrooms to demonstrate their specific experiment so that all the students observed each of the experiments.  Pictured from left is Lindsay Hudson, teacher, Ani Ramsingh and Anthony Balam.

Sunshine Kitchen Scholarship Cook-Off Winners!

Pictured is the winning team for the Sunshine Kitchen Scholarship Cook Off. Congratulations to Evelyn Miranda from Treasure Coast High School and Jorge Carrillo from Indian River State College. Their winning creation was a delicious lemon honey mustard buer blanc chicken with sautéed vegetables. Congratulations!

Sunshine Kitchen Cook-off

St. Lucie Public School Culinary Programs competed at the Sunshine Kitchen in Fort Pierce.  Five outstanding high school culinary students along with an Indian River State Culinary Institute student formed teams and competed at the Sunshine Kitchen Cook-off. Sunshine and Stories at White City Elementary

The fourth-grade students at White City had a great time making the most of the beautiful weather as they took their reading activity outside to read their parts in the drama “Peter Meets Wendy.” Once the play was over, the students collaborated to summarize the story.

Sunset Rotary donates dictionaries to Village Green students

Port St. Lucie’s Sunset Rotary President Larry Breault and Rotary Volunteer Julie Lambert received a huge “thank you” from third graders at Village Green Environmental Studies School after they were presented with free dictionaries and lessons on how to use them via a quick sleuthing activity. During the presentation, the children also learn about the Rotary and its commitment to helping children around the world and their continues effort to raise funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters, the CASTLE program, and anti-bullying programs.
