Students at Windmill Point hold mock presidential election

After weeks of research and debate about the candidates, the students in Pam Bryant’s fourth grade class at Windmill Point Elementary School voted for President. Students enjoyed learning about the voting process, the terminology, and the significance of elections in our country. With this experience happening only every four years, it was an excellent teachable moment about history. The students really enjoyed learning about the voting process and all that it entails and are looking forward to the day that they will get to cast their votes.

Port St. Lucie High cadets excel at regional meet

The Port St. Lucie High School JROTC Raider team recently competed in the District Raider meet. Forty-five teams with eight cadets per team from 16 schools competed in five physical and academic events. The raiders’ male A-Team placed second overall in the 3-mile run with a time of 19:26. Mixed team placed second overall in the cross country rescue course. c/CPT Devynn Rhodes placed third overall in the individual female P.T. test with a total of 51 push-ups and 86 sit-ups. Northport welcomes local veterans to celebrate special day

Northport K-8 School welcomed 23 local veterans into classrooms recently to listen to stories about their military careers, wars served, medals won and battles lost. Students asked an abundance of questions and were thrilled to be educated with primary source information. Students in Sandra Tyndale’s seventh grade class served as ambassadors to walk the veterans to classrooms and introduced the honored guests. Veterans were welcomed in the Media Center by principal Glenn Rustay and media specialist Lynne Gruszka. The importance of veterans’ service to America could not have been stressed enough as eighth grader Moriah Weir welcomed each veteran and Grace Buzziz, eighth grader … Read More

Book fair an all-star event at Palm Pointe

The book fair at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition is in full swing and is an all-star event. Parents and students throughout the school are purchasing books and enjoying the display of all the choices of books. Books can also be ordered online from Scholastic. Palm Pointe students experience mock election

Students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition experienced the voting process by participating in a mock election for the President of the United States. Students read non-partial literature and reviewed real ballots before voting.  The simulated election connected students to current events and deepened their knowledge of the patriotic process. Pictured casting their votes are third graders Dustin Condra, left, and Sebastian Rodriguez.

Eighth grade Palm Pointe students create videos

Fort Pierce Central High cadets raise funds for a good cause

The Fort Pierce Central Army JROTC Cadets conducted a fundraiserrecently, called Celebrity Server!  The event was hosted at a local restaurant by the cadets from Fort Pierce Central High school. The event was to raise money for their program to be able to provide local needy families with complete Thanksgiving meal basket. The cadets asked their family, friends, and teachers to join in and buy tickets to participate in the event. Rivers Edge students cast their votes

On election day, Rivers Edge Elementary students in third through fifth grade cast their vote for President at precinct 0381 in the school’s computer labs. Students were successful in predicting Barack Obama as the winner based on their votes.

F. K. Sweet kindergartners explore solid shapes

Kindergartners in Melanie Francisco’s class at F. K. Allapattah teachers and students get into the fall spirit

Allapattah first graders join in healthy movement

First grade students at Allapattah Flats K-8 recently enjoyed a visit from the Children’s Museum of the Treasure Coast to learn about nutrition and healthy eating. Students learned about the food pyramid, healthy eating habits, and the importance of exercise. Weatherbee Elementary parents learn about utilizing the Parent Portal

Parents at Weatherbee Elementary recently attended a workshop to learn about accessing the Parent Portal on the St Lucie Public Schools website and the “Skyward Family Access” program. Marj Armstrong of the Title I and Curriculum and Instruction departments, and Michael McCarthy of the 21st Century program, presented the workshop to parents. Parents learned how to access their child’s school grades, classroom assignments, and maintain vital teacher correspondence through the web based system. Allapattah Flats students learn about overcoming obstacles through Stella the Whale

Kindergarten through second grade students at Allapattah Flats K8 School recently were visited by Wyland Foundation, along with Stella the Whale.  Stella is a near life size canvas painting of a baby right whale. Students got to take part in a unique exercise in goal setting to help Stella migrate 700 miles from one end of the state to the other. Stella’s epic 30-day journey is part of an effort to draw attention to the plight of the endangered north Atlantic right whale whose numbers have dwindled in recent years to less than 400. Students create interactive hallways at Allpattah Flats

Seventh grade students in Christine King’s class at Allapattah Flats K-8 School created an interactive bulletin board of the short story “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe. Ft. Pierce Central cadets shine at regional competition

The Fort Pierce Central High School ROTC Raiders team competed recently in regional competition among 16 Florida high schools and 49 teams to qualify for state competition. The Cobra battalion brought four teams a male team under Cadet Master Sergeant James Lowery and a second male mixed team under Cadet Staff Sergeant Daniel Grundstrom. The first male mixed team, under Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Robert Grundstrom, brought home third place in the three mile team run. Mariposa Elementary kindergartners learn math hands-on

Students in Linda Auciello’s kindergarten class at Mariposa Elementary recently enjoyed a hands on math activity that taught them many lessons combined into one. They learned about ordering numbers up through 10, the concept of one more, and counting objects up to 10. Pictured is Shane Lesser counting his sets of blocks. He realized that when you make each set of blocks one more than the previous one then it looks like a set of stairs! Math is so much more fun when you can do it hands on!

Northport student inspired by letter from author

Northport K-8 fourth grader Cierra Yuhas knew she was having difficulty with reading comprehension. She spoke to her teacher, Carissa Provencher, who provided some valuable advice: select your favorite book, contact the author and get some tips on how to better understand concepts from books. Cierra took her teacher’s words to heart and wrote a letter explaining the situation to Cynthia Lord, author of “Rules”, Cierra’s favorite book.  Lord wrote Cierra a very special letter with some words of advice to keep reading, to look closely at everything because it becomes more beautiful. Palm Pointe students discover pumpkin mysteries

Fourth grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition spent a recent afternoon unraveling math and science mysteries about pumpkins! Through hands-on activities, students and parents measured the weight, height, and volume of their pumpkin. They then created a bar graph comparing the data they collected. The students predicted how many seeds were in their pumpkins and also used estimation strategies on a large jar of candy corn. Students preview Westwood High veterinary assisting program

Manatee Academy K8 School Vet Prep students and their parents recently visited Fort Pierce Westwood High School’s Veterinary Assisting Facility. Westwood’s Career and Tech Ed (CTE) Vet Assisting and Agricultural Biotech students hosted the campus visit, along with instructors Lisa Davenport and Charles Paschal, with the support of Westwood’s ninth grade counselor Monarae Buchanon.
