The Giving Tree is held each December. Each grade collects donations for a charity. A member representing the charity is then invited to the Giving Tree Ceremony and presented with the items collected. Kindergarten collected food items for Backpack Buddies; First Grade collected toys and gifts for Hibiscus House; Second Grade collected household items for Quantum House; Third grade collected items for pets to be given to the Humane Society and Caring Fields; Fourth Grade collected items for C.A.S.T.L.E and fifth grade collected items for Military personnel.

Today was Pirate Day at Rivers Edge! The Kindergarten students and teachers dressed up like pirates to make learning about maps and globes fully engaging. Activities included pirate stories, lessons about map keys and the compass rose, writing about pirates and of course a treasure hunt-using those newly acquired map skills! It was aaarrrggggghhh great day full of fun and learning-no one had to walk the plank!
Gardens are brimming over with blooms at Rivers Edge Elementary School! Students in Denise Ward’s second grade class worked tirelessly in the welcoming entry garden. Generous donations of mulch and new blooms from Lowe’s, along with students and parent contributions, helped spruce up all the beautiful campus and classroom gardens. Kindergarten students from Rivers Edge Elementary recently imagined they were sailing on the Mayflower to America. They measured and blocked out 100 feet in their hallway and all climbed aboard for a more personal experience.
On election day, Rivers Edge Elementary students in third through fifth grade cast their vote for President at precinct 0381 in the school’s computer labs. Students were successful in predicting Barack Obama as the winner based on their votes.
Students in Lisa Bradley’s kindergarten class at Rivers Edge Elementary School recently picked their own pumpkins from the school’s Ppumpkin patch. Students counted pumpkin seeds, weighed and measured, learned about the growth cycle and sorted shapes to make decorative faces as they ended their unit on Cornucopia.
The annual Planting Day at Rivers Edge Elementary School always refreshes the campus with new seasonal beauty. Students in Lorraine Bernard’s fourth grade class Jamar Gullett, Emily Plank, Paige Parrett and Sofietta Perfetti work at planting flowers and mulching their classroom garden just outside their door. Thanks go to the students and volunteers for making the campus a more welcoming place to be.
Rivers Edge Elementary hosted an exciting family event recently to put books in to the hands of students, Bingo for Books. Pictured is third grade student Kayla Filippini from Barbara Ditrapani’s with her dad enjoying a robust game of Bingo mixed with science trivia questions. Every student went home a winner!

Each grade group decorates a tree and collects gifts and much needed items for a chosen organization.
