CAST Student Wins Sunrise Theatre Contest

We are so proud to announce that CAST Kindergartner, Gia Grasso, has won the Sunrise Theatre Coloring Contest for the 5 & under category. Gia worked on this “extra project” while keeping up with her core classes online (including: Dance, Drama, Music, PE, and Visual Art). Congratulations Gia.

CAST Student Interviews Fort Pierce Mayor

CAST’s Virtual Media Arts Students used their time outside the classroom to their advantage this past month as students learned to film Interview segments with friends, neighbors, and family members. One student, Sterling Prettelt, did an exceptional job in her interview and even got Fort Pierce Mayor Linda Hudson to join her for an Interview! CAST Stop & STEAM

During CAST’s monthly Stop & STEAM event, we had many great collaborative activities! Kindergarten constructed a fence to keep Peter Rabbit out of Mr. MacGregor’s garden and first grade designed their own dot after reading “The Dot.” Eighth grade observed sunspots and identified critical information about the sun.

CAST STEAM Night

Students at CAST enjoyed a fun night of pizza, raffles, and STEAM activities at our annual STEAM Night. There were different activities for grade groups such as playing with kinetic sand, painting with puffy paint, creating their own musical instruments to learn about vibrations, and designing chemical reaction cars. It was a fun night of learning!  

CAST Spring Show Practice

CAST fifth graders in Dr. Irwin’s music class put on a rehearsal concert for kindergarten, first and second graders as they practice for their upcoming spring show. They performed “Fiesta,” “Crunchy, Crunchy, Crunchy” and “Party Rock Anthem.” We can’t wait to see them perform again!

CAST Sixth-Graders Create Self Portraits

During Women’s History Month, sixth-graders in Ms. Kenny’s English Language Arts classes learned about and researched female artists known for their self-portraits. Students wrote their own, “I am” poem, and created self-portraits with a unique and artistic twist. The final product was a fusion of language and art materials, creating a unique self-expression.    

CAST Shops for the Right Price

Mrs. Proctor’s 6th-grade math class is working on ratio concepts and being able to use ratio reasoning to solve problems. The students had the opportunity to “go shopping” in the classroom and see if it was cheaper to buy in bulk or a single item by itself. Students had to use what they learned about unit rate to see what each item in the bulk pack would cost and compare it to if it was cheaper to buy the item in bulk or the single items by themselves.  

CAST Shape Constructions

First graders at CAST constructed two-dimensional shapes out of pretzels and marshmallows. Students identified whether the pretzel or marshmallow was the side or vertices and then identified how many sides and vertices each shape had! What a yummy math review!  

Webquest

CAST Seventh Graders Rock a Webquest

Ms. Cruz’s seventh graders worked on a web quest to discover more about different types of rocks, characteristics of rocks, and the process of weathering. Students also conducted their own research to investigate the rock cycle. Students additionally explored a virtual rock lab! Rock on!

CAST Sends a Special Thank You to Essential Workers

The fine arts department at the Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie worked together to create the “Thank You Project” with their students soon after on-line learning began. All of our fine arts teachers had class discussions with their students identifying essential workers and what each of them has done for us during these challenging times. Our students wanted to thank our community using their talents in the arts. CAST Science Teacher Chosen for Summer G-Camp Through Texas A & M

Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie’s eighth grade science teacher, Aaron Barnes, was just selected to represent CAST at Texas A & M University’s G-Camp through their College of Geosciences. The acceptance into this program is an extreme honor as only 50 teachers in the United States are chosen for this exciting opportunity! G-Camp is a 20-day field camp for teachers that provides first-hand experience with the principles of geology in the field. CAST Rocks Dancing in December

Congratulations to our middle school dancers who participated in Dancing in December. The show was such an awesome collaboration with Treasure Coast High School and Fort Pierce Central High School. They did an amazing job!

CAST Rocks!

“Beat It” by Michael Jackson, “Zombie” by the Cranberries, and “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King were just some of the rock classics Mr. Guess’ CAST Rock Band performed at their rock concert! There were also several keyboard ensembles and solos! We are blinded by all the talent at CAST!    

CAST & Project Lead the Way

Kindergarteners and first graders at CAST worked through a Project Lead the Way project during Stop & STEAM week. Students learned first about the structure and function of our body and different body parts such as the heart, lungs, and stomach. Students examined bones closer by recreating an X-ray image. Then they designed a cast to protect a broken bone that was strong, light, comfortable and water resistant.

CAST Prepares to Shine!

Kindergarten, first and second graders at CAST were invited to Mr. Rahming’s musical theatre’s dress rehearsal for their upcoming show. Students enjoyed listening to a variety of songs from all the decades! Everyone was clapping and dancing along to these classic songs!   

CAST Pollinators

During CAST’s recent Stop & STEAM event, second grade students in Mrs. Simmon’s class focused on the “S” part of STEAM by creating hand pollinators and designing their own flowers. Then they used the hand pollinators to simulate how pollen is transferred to flowers by insects. This culminating activity aided their learning on living things and the relationships between plants and animals.

CAST Performs Virtually

Creative Arts Academy, K-5 Drama teacher, Mary Roti has been working with her students as they create and perform virtually.  Third-grader, Alex Sosta, performed a duet scene with his brother, 6th grader, Jace Sosta. Alex created his superhero character through a variety of activities such as acting objectives, character creation, and performance. He collaborated with his brother who is a middle school Media Arts student. These scenes are included in the weekly announcements uploaded to CANVAS and YouTube.

CAST Performers Host Courtyard Flash Mob

CAST students in grades 3-8 hosted a spectacular Flash Mob in the courtyard for many to enjoy. The band, art, music, instrumental, dance, and media arts students collaborated to showcase their creativity. Congratulations on an amazing show!

CAST News Anchors Highlight MLK Day

    Although the Martin Luther King Jr. parade was canceled this year due to COVID, media arts students at CAST highlighted clips from the parade that occurred last year. The morning news anchors created a special message about the power of togetherness in celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

CAST MySchool Teachers Go The Extra Mile

MySchool teachers at CAST have found some amazing ways to go above and beyond for their virtual students! Mrs. Robyn Church framed pictures of each of her wonderful fourth grade students and placed them on individual desks in her classroom to help create the same warm in-person environment she’s used to. Even though it may feel a little different to read a book to a computer screen, the students’ pictures are a constant reminder of their presence, even when their faces aren’t seen on screen.
