In a competitive academic competition, local high school teams competed for top honors and individual team members vied for a seat on the prestigious Team St. Lucie – an elite six-member team that represented St. Lucie Public Schools at the 34th Annual Commissioner’s Academic Challenge. Commissioners 29th Annual Academic Challenge Team Recognition

At the May 13th School Board Meeting, St. Lucie County high school students received plaques for placing 2nd in the State for the 29th Annual Commissioner’s Academic Challenge. The Commissioner’s Academic Challenge is a highly academic statewide high school tournament inaugurated in 1986 and designed to provide a prestigious academic arena in which Florida’s academically talented high school students are recognized. Commander’s Award for Civilian Service at FPWHS

A tremendous honor was recently bestowed on our very own Fort Pierce Westwood High School Principal Mr. Joseph Lezeau. Last week during the high school’s JROTC Awards Ceremony, an impressive number of cadets earned awards for high academic accomplishments and were recognized for their citizenship, leadership, and community service.  At the close of the ceremony, CSM Frederico Dottin presented Mr. Lezeau with the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service. Coming Soon: Disney’s Lion King at Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie (CAST)

Disney’s Lion King, Jr. premieres at Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie (CAST) January 18 & 19, and 25 & 26 in the historic auditorium. This production is full collaboration of all middle school fine arts including dance, drama, music, visual arts, digital arts and TV production.  With over 80 cast members, this is one show you will not want to miss and fun for all ages. Combined high school color guard has community presentation

The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion recently conducted a combined Color Guard with the Treasure Coast High School Air Force JROTC. The Color Guard was led by Port Saint Lucie High School’s Cadet Captain Rhodes who presented the U.S. flag. Bearing the state flag was Cadet Pollino. The guards to follow were Cadet Lynn and Cadet Hopkins. Treasure Coast High School’s cadets Gillman, Shoemaker, Crewse and Love presented the POW/MIA flag and the service flags. The Port St. Lucie High School Color Guard and Treasure Coast High School Color Guard did a phenomenal presentation to remember veterans.

Colts Identify Mystery Substances by Testing pH

Eighth graders in Mr. Nicks’ science class at Samuel Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies (SGAET) identify unknown compounds by testing their chemical properties. pH indicator (Anthocyanin) was made by boiling red cabbage and collecting the purple solution that was produced. This indicator changes color based on the acidity or alkalinity of the substance it is added to. Students made observations on the color change in their lab reports and attempted to identify the unknown substances based on the known pH of common household solutions. Colt Nation Leader in Me & Minecraft Stop & STEM

Colt Nation’s 4th graders enjoyed a Leader in Me/Minecraft Stop & STEM day in which they collaboratively selected and reflected upon their favorite Leader in Me habit, expressed their communal voice through FlipGrid, and designed a visual representation of their habit in Minecraft. It took teamwork to execute this challenge using multiple modalities. Everyone’s genius was surely at work! Great job, Colts!

Colorful Fun at Village Green

Celebrating the inventor of the Crayola crayon! Ms. Sievers, VGESS Media Specialist, read this book to students. The students were inspired by the story of Edwin Binney, the inventor of the Crayola crayon, and his love for art and color. They learned about the history of how crayons were created and how they have become a staple in art and creativity. As they colored their marine life masterpieces, the students were filled with excitement and joy. Fort Pierce Central High School students in the Allied Health program were provided an opportunity to participate in a College Readiness presentation.  This presentation was special as it was hosted by Ms. Shannon Robinson, a Fort Pierce Central High School alumni and current University of Florida Dental student.  Students from Ms. Charles and Mrs. Young’s classes were provided tips for success in high school and college.  The presentation included a wealth of information from high school engagement and leadership opportunities to college scholarships. Over 600 parents and students attended Ft. Pierce Central’s College Night for Juniors and Seniors.  Hosted by Central’s Guidance Dept. and Administration, families learned important information regarding the college application process, college admission data, and financial/scholarship opportunities.  Websites that can assist in selecting and applying for colleges and scholarships were demonstrated.  Students were also given a time line of what needs to be completed each month to stay on track and meet deadlines.  Guidance Counselors and teachers will continue to work with Seniors on college and career choices throughout the school year.  Many parents expressed their gratitude for the information, … Read More

The Port St. Lucie Civic Center hosted the annual College Fair to inform all students and parents about colleges and universities to prepare them for the future. The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar JROTC volunteered to help the colleges, universities, and community supporters set up and prepare for the the event.
