At Southport Middle School, students in Ms. Banken’s class were highly engaged in a Dots and Boxes activity.  8th graders in pre-algebra had to solve task cards correctly to earn one line, with the goal of creating full squares. Students worked in teams of 2 with one student being the player and one being the coach.  Only the player could hold the pencil and work out the problem while the coach could offer verbal guidance and encouragement.  Once the team had answered the question accurately the player marked a line on the board. Cooking Demonstration

A group of students and their parents at CA Moore Elementary participated in a nutrition education class and enjoyed a healthy cooking demonstration as part of Career Week. They learned about making a balanced, quick, and cost-effective snack which they then made. The class wrapped up by enjoying yogurt parfaits with a variety of fresh berries!  

Cookie Connection at Fort Pierce Westwood Academy

Students in Ms. Lewis’ class completed a protein synthesis lab. Students traveled into the nucleus (hallway) to replicate their DNA/cookie gene. After replication, they had to produce an mRNA code for the original gene. Once the mRNA strand was created, they traveled to the ribosome (lab area) to model translation. By the end, they had a list of ingredients that they used to assemble their protein(cookie).  

Cook-Off Champion

The 2017 “Fresh from Florida” Student Chef Cook-Off champions announcement from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services brought cheers from students and staff at Fort Pierce Westwood High School.  ProStart student Sheldon Riley placed second with his Southwestern Chicken and Orzo Salad. The competition included students in grades nine through 12 from across the state who were challenged to prepare original dishes featuring at least one Florida-grown fruit or vegetable for a panel of judges. Contributions Support DCEC

DCEC hosted a THANK YOU luncheon for community members.  Members from Kiwanis, Health Department, Restoring the Village, Concetta Viggiano Parry Foundation, and Appreciation Financial participated.  The Kiwanis donated $1,000 and Concetta Viggiano Parry Foundation donated $800 to the school’s Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports Program. For both organizations, these donations are annual contributions for which the school is most thankful. According to Principal Harden, one of the luncheon guests indicated that his neighbor attends DCEC and he has seen a great difference in his behavior in the neighborhood since attending the school.  

Constitution Day at SGAET

SGAET Fourth graders culminated their unit on the U.S. Government by welcoming our very own Military Mom, Ms. Patterson, as a guest speaker on Constitution Day! Students gained insight and celebrated with great pride through Nearpod, trivia, and more patriotic fun and games.

Constitution Day at Palm Pointe

Seventh grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research @ Tradition enjoyed listening and learning to guest speaker, attorney Tanya Fender. She came to talk to them about the Constitution, rights and responsibilities.  The students later were able to ask questions and discuss the information.  It was a very informative and educational experience for the students.

Constitution Day at Gaines Academy

Constitution Day is not going unnoticed at Samuel Gaines Academy. Mr. Robert Plowden’s  8th grade students joined this celebration by displaying thinking maps and art work. The students also have entered the “Constitution Day” poster contest and a group of attorneys from the Tri-County area came to speak with them about constitutional amendments.

Congressman Mast Speaks at Port St. Lucie High School’s Change of Command Ceremony 2019

On Wednesday, April 24, 2019, the Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion had its annual Change of Command ceremony to announce the incoming Battalion Commander and Command Sergeant Major for the school year 2019-2020. As our honored guest, Congressman Mast gave an inspirational speech to the nearly 200 cadets. The outgoing Battalion Commander, Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Veronika Patti, passed the Battalion colors to Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Simmons relinquishing her duties and responsibilities to the new commander. Congressman Brian Mast Visits TCHS AFJROTC

Congressman Brian Mast took time out his busy schedule on April 23rd to meet with the AFJROTC cadets of Treasure Coast High School.  Addressing them for an hour in the school’s auditorium, he spoke passionately about keys to success in life after high school, sharing his own personal life experiences to both educate and inspire the cadets towards reaching their goals.  Additionally, he addressed civic responsibility and patriotism.  It was a huge honor for the cadets to have an audience with their congressman and be allowed to ask him a lot of questions.

Florida District 21 Congressman Brian Mast visited the SLW Centennial High School’s Navy JROTC “Black Talon” Company last Wednesday, February 18, 2026. Congressional Gold Medal

Sebastian Suarez was joined by his family and administrators from Lincoln Park Academy as Superintendent E. Wayne Gent and School Board Members recognized him for earning his the Congressional Award Gold Medal.  Established into law in 1979, the Congressional Award was created to honor, encourage, and inspire America’s youth. To earn the Gold Medal, Suarez, a senior, completed 400 hours of Voluntary Public Service, 200 hours of Personal Development, and 200 hours of Physical Fitness. Congressional Award Presented to Mosaic Digital Academy Sophomore

ST. LUCIE COUNTY – St. Lucie Public Schools’ (SLPS) sophomore Christine Bourgoin of Mosaic Digital Academy was presented a Congressional Award on April 3 at a ceremony hosted by Congressman Patrick E. Murphy.  Bourgoin, a bronze medal recipient, was among 50 young Floridians from St. Lucie, Martin, and Palm Beach honored for volunteerism, leadership, and personal development. Seventh graders in Mrs. Lauren Kappler’s West Gate K-8 Civics class won first place accolades in the St. Lucie Public Schools Project Citizen Showcase.  Their project entitled Don’t Panic will compete at the State level and is currently on display at the Capital where legislators will serve on judging panels for a final evaluation of all projects by late May.
